It is annoying when you're in and out of the truck opening gates or on your own private land with no other vehicles within thousands of acres, I buckle mine and then get in with it at my back. I wear it all the time when on the street though, not really into face checking the steering wheel or windshield if involved in an accident.

I want to be where you are at: "no other vehicles for thousands of acres". Sounds like a slice of heaven to me. I can get about 300+ acres or so away from nearest lane. :tumbleweed:

Some here have jumped on the "don't mess with safety systems" bandwagon. I am not sure anyone is messing with safety in any fashion. Actually wearing a seatbelt has to do with safety. Whether a chime is going off or not has nothing to do with safety in any fashion. When you smash into the wall, the chime is not going to make a difference. This kinda reminds me of current issues in commercial trucking. That, say, electronic hours of service logging will improve safety compared to paper log books. How it is logged has nothing to do with how fast a truck was going, was the driver tired, was he not paying attention, etc, etc, etc. It is just a "feel good" measure to give the appearance of safety. The chime in these pickups is no different. If one is determined, for whatever reason, to not wear a seat belt, then no chime is going to get them to buckle up. And disabling the chime still leaves the seatbelts fully functional and just as secure as before. And it isn't that folks need to be reminded that seat belts exist. Everyone knows they are there. For various reasons, many have been mentioned, actually using the seatbelt each and every time the gear shift is moved out of park is nonsensical. I highly doubt that driving at 5 mph checking a fence line or hillside terraces or checking for a tile line blowout in a waterway with my seat belt off is going to be a real problem. But listening to that stupid chime go off all the time is going to distract me and just plain tick me off.

Do as Mikes suggested, get another buckle and plug it in.

Problem solved. No more need fro you to rant

Original poster is right on the function.  Unplugging the seatbelt sensor tells the system the seatbelt is plugged in.  All safety features will work as normal, minus the reminder chime sound.  GM sells a seatbelt extender that in effect does the same thing, so they knew to make it this way.  This works on the 2007 to 2013 Avalanche as well.

Holy cow, I never came back to this thread, did I ever once say I don't wear a seatbelt while driving? That's pretty funny. Although I did get a ticket the one frickin time I didnt' wear a seatbelt, because my appendix was about to rupture and I was on the way to the hospital and it hurt and could kill me if I wrecked. Cop gave me a ticket anyway saying "yeh it doesn't hurt as bad as going through the windshield will". You guys kinda remind me of that jerk :P Yes it did rupture anyway due to incompetent doctors and I had two surgeries and was out of work 4 months last year. I think I can decide if I need my seatbelt or not, thank you. Don't need you or big brother (or a GM nanny) policing me.

The airbags still work fine, you just don't have an annoying chime when you doing stuff in the yard and off road. If you only drive out of your driveway and to work, fine, leave it alone (and get a car), quit preaching you big babies :rollin: If you can't remember to buckle up, great, leave it alone.
