Hello to all fellow GM fanatics. A little about myself I am Josh from Oregon. I found myself owning my first chevy in 2007 as I made the swith from my second Toyota to a new Silverado. The truck has been great and I am so glad to be able to say Thank God I did not buy a Tundra! How many recalls are they up to now I lost track...

 

I enjoy this forum as great place to connect with others that are experiencing the same joy of ownership of a great american engineered product. I also appreciate the stories and lessons learned from our own vehicles and projects.

 

So here's my first "lesson learned" contribution to the forum. If you are considering the installation of a leveling kit sell your truck and go buy an HD. I just found out that at 25,000 miles I am going to be replacing my control arms as my ball joints are shot. Not at all what I had predicted for longevity. I guess they are engineered to take the load at the established angle from the factory and not what an aftermarket manufacturer suggests they can support. Once I get them off my truck I'll take a crack at a root cause failure analysis and let you know what I find out. I'll be looking into the hardness profile of the joint and wear patterns to see if we can come up with something better. I know I'm not the only one out there that has found this out the hard way.
