Speed Limiter 2008 Silverado 5.3

I had to get to work yesterday in a hurry, normally I would be in a car that speeding would not matter  .....but anyway, I was on the freeway and at 91mph the truck nose's over and won't go any faster....even with my foot WFO.

Is this something a tune can fix, BTW.....the power trains in these trucks suck....allways acting confused and not giving the power when needed, freaking touqe managment

Get a Black Bear Tune, and your speed limiter will be gone. Your truck will be more responsive, the powertrain dosen't suck. My truck on a stock tune won't go over 92mph, but with my Black Bear Tune it will go over 120mph. What sucks is the factory tune so get in touch with Justin at Black Bear Performance, and he will make your truck drive like how it is supposed to drive.

the factory speed limiter is set for the speed rating of the tires installed on the vehicle.

all manufacturers do it this way, even my GF's new Audi we picked up last night acknowledges in the owner's manual that it has a speed cutoff of 130 mph (the speed rating for the factory H rated tires).

L 75 mph 120 km/h Off-Road & Light Truck Tires

M 81 mph 130 km/h

N 87 mph 140km/h Temporary Spare Tires

P 93 mph 150 km/h

Q 99 mph 160 km/h Studless & Studdable Winter Tires

R 106 mph 170 km/h H.D. Light Truck Tires

S 112 mph 180 km/h Family Sedans & Vans

T 118 mph 190 km/h Family Sedans & Vans

U 124 mph 200 km/h

The funny part is, that unless you have to go 50 miles, the time you "save" by speeding is in the seconds range. Same for the running to the car, then running into the office. It just makes you feel better about being late. Now if he uses those seconds to find a cure for cancer, then I would say it was worth it.

Yup! Even tho you get a tune and your engine still wants to go 120 mph, your tires are probably not rated for it and you are risking a blowout at those speeds which could kill you and other Innocent people...

With that being said, my truck cuts out right around 95 :shakehead: It was a one time thing that i accidentally discovered... I was playing a little cat and mouse with another car and next thing i know it felt like i hit a brick wall cause the gas shut off and truck said NO MORE! Then i realized how fast i was going and backed the f off

I have my truck tuned...for 94 octane too...

I still have no idea what the speed limiter is set to....I told the guy doing the tune to just leave it alone.

It goes fast enough below 60MPH to get in trouble...

The speed limiter is set to 95MPH - get a Bullydog (or other handheld programmer) & you can raise it up to 135MPH.

My Black Bear Tune could do that and more than any handheld programmer.

Tune if you need to go that fast...I would not worry about the tire nannys here...I ran my 67 69 72 goats 110 + and my friend's 70-71? hemi cuda 140+ on bias ply red lines...not near the tires we have now no matter the rating...

Now the handling of my large truck (even with bilsteins and good michelins) and stopping distance would slow me down but not the tires...if late often, recommend a Camaro, Stang or Chal...or a better alarm clock...
