i have the chance to claim the ls1 out of my buddy's wrecked 04 vette. i know i need a new intake because the vette's is lo-pro. and i have a clutch fan being that my truck is an 04. i know some parts are interchangeable with an ls1. am i able to use my intake and pulley setup on the ls1?

Just bolt it in and have your PCM custom tuned for the 5.7L and leave the clutch fan alone. Use the truck plentum and the 5.7L injectors use the 5.3 fuel rail for the return type fuel system and drive it.

Bingo. You can re-use any of the truck-specific parts on your 5.3L to get the LS1 up and running.

so i can keep the clutch fan, and all my pulley accessories, and i have the 4.8. so does that change any thing that was said

Nope, sure doesn't. A Gen-III LSx is a Gen-III LSx, regardless of displacement. The front end accessory drive mounting locations are all identical on the blocks, the intake manifolds are interchangeable (you can use your 4.8L's intake on top of the LS1), etc.

I would suggest getting in touch with a tuner like Justin @ Blackbear Performance... I'm fairly certain he'd be one of the best to help you out with the project you're doing.

why change the cam? i dont want to overload the 4l60e. and also i dont want to drive the truck til its done when i decide to start this. and im definitely not trailering it because it is my daily driver

Because that engine has a cam that was spec'd out for a car that weighs at least a half of a ton less than your pickup and with a different job.

I'm sure that it would work okay, but if I'm remembering correctly, the truck cams have a lot more low end grunt, needed for the weight and job of a truck instead of the power being higher in the RPM range like the F-bodies need.

I was just thinking that getting a stock cam out of a truck could be had for close to free and might work better. But I'm also talking out of my ass, as I've never personally done this conversion.

well my truck is a big car rarely tow or haul. i press the tow/haul ass button when i dont want it to shift under high power loads
