Leveling Kit Or Body Lifts?

Recommended Posts

I have a 2008 Chevy Silverado 4X4 and I have seen a lot of things on here about lifting and leveling the front end. I want the best look for my truck and i wanted to know any suggestions that anyone may have as to what i could do. I wasnt hoping to spend and arm and a leg either.

Do both. Or just start with a leveling kit and if you want more add a body lift.

After reading about all the premature worn suspension parts from a leveling kit I would say do the body lift. No wear on suspension parts that way.

That's what I'm worried about. I really dislike the look of the 2" rake we have stock. Looks like the trucks always slamming on brakes. But I don't want to replace my balljoints in another 1000 miles or anything.. or create a vibration.. I was reading up on the RC 3" suspension lift.. though I'm not really ready to buy new rims and tires yet.. and wont be for some time.

If you go with the RC 3" you will be sorry. Read all the posts about the horrible experiences on this site. Not everyone has had problems but almost everyone has regretted buying that kit.

Go with a body lift and level. I have been lurking and part of this site for well over a year and a half now and out of the hundreds upon hundreds of people here using leveling kits I don't really remember seeing any talk about having to replace their balljoints. Eventually they will need to be replaced regardless of leveling kit or not. The leveling kit may have MINOR effects on them causing them to wear early, but it's not like you will put on the level and a few months later they're shot. If you don't like the rake and are scared of 2" level then go with 1.5" and a bodylift. If you want a suspension then go with a quality kit and don't shop based on price. It will cost you more money to buy a cheap suspension kit in the the long run.

I personally think the set-up LSU Dark Knight has on his truck is the perfect stance! The 2" leveling kit brings the nose up (with minimal impact on suspension), and the 3" body lift gives it that little extra aggressive look that our trucks need. Probably my next purchase!

I still have my RC 2 inch leveling kit sitting in my shed. Bought it over winter when they were on sale. Initially I was concerned about potential problems with the ball joints etc but I have decided to put that fear aside. For each post you find blaming premature wear on a leveling kit you can find an equal or higher number of post praising the kits. As stated in other posts, things can and will break regardless of mods. It's human nature to want to blame someone or something so "my leveling kit wrecked my front end" post are inevitable. There may be some truth to these posts but it is certainly not guaranteed the kit = problems. The only reason I have not installed my kit yet is a new fear. The fear of the "mod" bug. If I do the kit then I just have to get bigger tires. Well it just makes sense to get some shinny new wheels for those tires. Man, might as well do that corsa exhaust I have been looking at too.......A nice new CAI would only make sense with a performance exhaust.....Oh god here I go again.
