brad519 Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 I've got a 2008 Silverado and the day I purchased it I took off the Dealer Info stickers with no problem. But now I'm thinking about doing some more debadging and I am planning on the "Flex Fuel" badge 1st. I've seen where people use a hair dryer to heat it up and then fishing line. Well I can't find my old hair dryer, No need for it anymore so if I just use the fishing line technique; will it work and if so does it scratch the paint? I don't want to do it and then have some minor scratches from the fishing line. Any suggestions? If the "flex" comes off easily enough I may venture into removing the "silverado" also.
MADS99 Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 No the fishing line will not Scratch the paint......Once you have the Badges off there will be some Adhesive left over.To Remove the Adhesive can be done a couple of ways....I used a 3M-Eraser Wheel....using the Eraser is the quickest & safest way to remove the left over Adhesive.
brad519 Posted June 24, 2010 Author Posted June 24, 2010 Thanks. The "Flex" sticker was a PITA. I didn't think it was coming off. Finally got it but some how I got a tiny paint chip. It's really, really small but it still pissed me off. I'll have to see if my friend who paints has any ideas on touching that one up. The adhesive stuff wasn't fun getting off but once I got it rolling it cleaned up nicely. Even with getting the tiny chip; I decided to have a go on the "GM" sticker's in front of the "Silverado" on the door's. They were easy to get off but the adhesive was some PITA. I just had some bug/tar remover and a hair dryer but I was able to get both off. It's summer in Mississippi you wouldn't think I'd need the hair dryer. If I decide to do the Silverado, I'm going to get some 3M 1st.
STINSAN3 Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Same thing I'm gonna do later today, since I don't have anything to do lol
brad519 Posted June 24, 2010 Author Posted June 24, 2010 Well I got bored and decided to tackle the tailgate minus the bowtie. Just used the fishing line, tar/bug remover, hair dryer. Before After Anyone know how to go about getting a black rear bowtie?
88K5 Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 I use a plastic putty knife. Works perfect, no scratches, no need for a hair dryer. Anything left over comes of easy with wax and grease remover. No more flex fuel here 4x4 instead.
Sierra in the Sand Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Never tried it, but I've heatd dental floss works better than fish line.

J-man67 Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 I REALLY need to do this. I was behind a GMC the other day with nothing on the tailgate, and I must say, I liked it.
EZ_ Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 "Anyone know how to go about getting a black rear bowtie?" http://www.webxtremes.com/chevybowtiedecals.htm Vinyl overlays are cheap and last a long time. I've had mine on for almost 2 years, prob about time to replace it but not really enough reason to yet. The bowtie vinyl covers the entire emblem (sorry for the filthy truck, lot of rain this week)

STINSAN3 Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 FlexFuel Badge, I thought it was never gonna come off. It was like super-glued on there.
brad519 Posted July 1, 2010 Author Posted July 1, 2010 FlexFuel Badge, I thought it was never gonna come off. It was like super-glued on there. You and me both. The Flex was my 1st attempt at taking off a badge and I almost quit after that one but the letters come off real easy. Glue is still a bitch though. Can't decide if I want to take off the rear bowtie, paint it, or put vinyl over it.
STINSAN3 Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Yeah same here man, I kinda wanna leave the rear bowtie on there, then I don't. What all did you use to takes your badges off? I used fishing line, goo-gone & thats all. I might try to buy an eraser wheel.
