Battery Isolator Install

Recommended Posts

Posted

I finally got my battery isolator installed so that the camper cannot drain the pickup battery while I'm parked. There are a number of topics on the forum about getting 12V to a camper or trailer, so I thought I would post this in case it would help someone.

I made a mounting plate for the isolator from galvanized sheet metal with two slots cut in it so that it would fit behind the washers and nuts that help secure the aux battery tray. The isolator is mounted to the plate with a couple of sheet metal screws. The yellow object off to the left is the manufacturer specified 10A fuse between the isolator and ground (don't ask me why they want a fuse - they said do it and it did it)

All that remains to be done is to figure out how to attach some sort of cover to the fuse box cover so that it will shield the exposed 12V terminal from unintended screw-ups.

(For some reason, Firefox no longer shows the cursor on this forum, which makes editing a real pain, so pardon the errors)

I hate to resurrect an old thread, but after reviewing this forum and many, many others of people using the Sure Power 1314 isolator; I was ready to order one until I just learned that they have been recalled:

I have sent an email to [email protected] asking them what they would recommend for a direct replacement. Once I obtain further information of a suitable replacement, I'll update this thread.
