Trailer Package

Hello, I have a 2009 Tahoe that came with the trailer package and 7-pin connector at the hitch. It doesn't appear to be working. In the user manual it says that the dealer needs to connect this but in searching the Net, that doesn't seem to be the case. Is there anyone that can give me instructions on how to hook up the wiring harness? I see there is at least one red wire that's wrapped in electrical tape behind and below the fuse box under the hood with a group of other wires. I believe that's the wiring harness that was never connected by the dealer. I don't need the package hooked up for breaking. I just need the 7-pin connector to work to operate a license plate holder/light I rigged up with a 7-pin connector for a cargo tray that will block my license plate when loaded. Thanks.

I don't understand, every thing on it should work from the factory except trailer brakes and 12v+ feed. That harness under the steering wheel you,re talking about is the trailer controller wires for if you were running electric brakes on a trailer.

None of it works. I used a tester in the pins and there's now power there. This was a certified corporate used vehicle and didn't go through the normal dealer process. My assumption is they didn't connect the wiring harness. Thanks for your help. I'm just going to take it to the dealer.

you may want to check the fuse box. The fuse might be blown...not likely, but free to check out.

The 2 red wires under the hood (not under the dash ones) is for battery power to the black wire on the 7 pin connector. BTW, you also would need to add the 40 amp fuse as well to the fuse panel, all the stuff is there, just need to plug the fuse in after connecting the two red wires to the posts at the front edge of the fuse panel, but this has nothing to do with what you want/need. It is purely for power to the trailer for battery or accessory power needs inside the trailer.
