Was The Hd Option Available With The Z71 In 2000 & 2001?

I want to stay away from the 6l, so going with the 5.3l. I want the Z71 as it has the limited slip rear diff. But I want a larger pay load than 1800lbs that the 1500 chasis has, so looking more like the 2500 chasis payload has. So was the HD option even avaialbe with the Z71 extended cab 4x4?

Thanks!

No,The Z71 pkg. was not available on the HD's on the '99-'07 GMT800 trucks, nor was there any HD option available on the GMT800 1/2-tons like there was on the GMT400 1/2-tons.

OK, please forgive my uneducated self, but I keep seeing GMT400, 800, etc. I am used to 1/2 T and 1500 or 3/4 T and 2500. So in laymans terms what are the 400 and 800?

GMT-400 is years '88-98 plus '99 classic. 800 is '99-06 plus '07 classic. 900 is '07-current. All half ton, 3/4 ton, and one ton designations are still "valid".

Thank you for the link. I am learning lots of new things today. :ughdance:

So was the GMT800 up to the 1/2 ton, or did it include the 3/4T or maybe even the 1 ton? Meaning at what point did the frame change? The link said the frame was a SUV frame, so am wondering where the cut off was where a beefer frame was used.

So what does the HD really mean in the GMT800?

I am from the old days when a HD meant a heavier suspension for the 1/2 ton trucks--many snow plow operators got this option back in the 80s.

So I think that I need to redifine what a HD designation means to me, and get with what it means today in the GMT800. So from what was said 5 posts above, it is only available in 3/4 and 1 ton then? And what is the difference of having a HD rating then?

GMT800 applies to all 1500, 1500HD, 2500, 2500HD, and 3500 trucks starting in 1999 with the 1/2 tons and then ending in 2007 with the "classic" designation. The HDs do have different suspensions and frames than the 1/2 ton trucks. And the Z71 package wasn't available on anything but the 1500 trucks for the GMT800, however, the G80 option code indicating a locking rear differential was available for all. That doesn't mean that it is the SAME locking rear diff.

Ok, so how does one know if the truck has a HD rating? I do not recall a decal like the Z71 has. Is there a code for the HD rating?

Also--does any one know the payload of a 2000-2001 1500HD?

I don't know the payload but a 1500HD had a gvwr of 8600lb, BUT I don't think the 1500HD existed in 2000 or 2001. They are pretty much a 2500 which I think was available in 2000-2001(also had a gvwr of 8600). The 2500HD had a gvwr of 9200lb. The "HD" trucks should be labeled on their badges on the doors as such.

My 2500hd came from the factory with z71 stickers, but only because it had skid plates and 4wd and the g80. If you looked in the glovebox, it said z85 and didn't have any z71 code anywhere. It had the z71 stickers when it came off the truck at the lot up until about a month ago when I scrapped them off.

They would not have been factory, either the dealer or a previous owner added them, all the HD's and non-Z71 1/2-ton 4x4's had were the regular "4x4" decals.

I'm not gonna argue with you, but the stickers cam from the factory. I've seen a couple with the z71 stickers on them that came from the factory, I know it doesn't have the RPO "Z71", but they did come from the factory. I don't think the dealer in our area would mess with the truck, and "I" bought it new back in Dec. 2000. It seems like the diesels and the work truck models that didn't come with the skid plates had "4x4" stickers on them.

Well working in a dealer for 20 years, and helping order these trucks everyday....I can tell you no GMT800 HD ever had Z71 decals from the factory.

I bet your dealer did add them....we've had a couple GM's here that thought it would be a good idea to add Z71 decals to trucks that were not,so I've seen it done!

Trust me....The Z71 decals on your truck were not factory.
