Rislone Vs. Restore

which one works better and do they actually work?

No experience with Rislone. As for Restore, way back in the late 80's a friend of mine had a 72 bronco with a 302 in it. It was in serious need of some attention. Anyway long story short, there is one store in town that has a steep slope in front of it to park on. He parked his bronco on the slope in front of the store which was about 30 ft away from the store front. All he did was park it and put it in 1st gear. By the time he came out it was all the way down to the curb stop in front of the store. Seems the engine compression wasn't what it should have been. Just for something to do and try he put in a can of the Restore and put about 3k miles on the engine with that in the oil. Went back to the same place and did the same thing and this time the bronco stayed were he parked it. Seems that it did help his compression. I know this isn't a good test and he didn't take before and after compression readings but it seemed to have helped his beat up bronco and he was happy.

I would only use it if you have no other choice to keep your ride on the road, then you got nothing to loose. Like money is super tight and it is your only ride. But if all is well then why use it?

The last time I had any contact with a can of Rislone it was used as an engine cleaner when added to oil. Restore, as Nick said, is a different type product. I have seen Restore cut down on oil consumption in certain engines. Some it made no difference whatsoever.

Restore is the only thing I have ever heard anything about... they make a 4, 6, and 8 cylinder bottle. It is a mechanic in a can...... just as I have heard about DR tranie in the red tube.

The restore bottle says it will restore compression and help balance the compression inbetween all cylinders.

Back in high school I had a '95 Hyundai Elantra. When the timing belt broke on me it destroyed the engine. I had it rebuilt but it always burned some oil after that. I tried the Rislone Ring Seal and within a few days it stopped smoking out the back. It lasted about 5-6 weeks and was enough for me to keep driving it until I could get a new car. YMMV but it worked for me.

Over the years I have tried both.

Rislone is a very light oil that cleans out the ring lands and can bring compression and oil use back to where it should be depending on the mechanical condition of the engine. Rislone can rejuvenate a good engine. IMO a good synthetic oil will accomplish the same thing without the need for any additional additives.

Restore, supposedly actually fills in grooves and scratches in the metal surfaces thereby decreasing blow-by and increasing compression to some degree when there is already significant wear in an engine. Restore helps an ailing engine.

So to me they accomplish similar things but by different means and it depends on the condition of your engine.

My 2 cents.
