Advanced Remote Start

I am buying a 2010 GMC Sierra 1500. It's a 5.3 4WD SB. I wanted to get the 2-Way Advanced Remote Start but everwhere I look I am finding that if I have the rear window defogger I can't have the advanced start. Does anyone know if this is a fact?

It already comes stock with the factory remote start and remote door unlock.

I don't know why a rear deffoger would make that much of a difference in starting your truck? So, I doubt that's a fact, maybe it's just saying it won't automaticly come on when started and it's cold outside.

I never really expected the Rear window defogger to come on. It's just that all the web sites I have seen say that if you have a rear window defogger, you can't get the advanced remote start.

I don't believe that's true at all.

Call some dealers. When my dad bought his 2009 Silverado he wanted to add remote start (he didn't have it at all) just the basic one and the dealer he bought the truck from said he couldn't because of some module he had. After a few months of him talking about it I finally told him to call another dealer, and they said they could do it, but only the two-way remote start.

Now he doesn't have the rear window defroster, but my point is the website may say no, but the dealer may realize that the rear window defroster has nothing to do with command start and put it in for you, or certain dealers may. Now I have five dealers withing in 20 minutes of me, so for me going to a different dealer is easy, not sure for you.

You can hook up the rear defogger with a Viper alarm, I'll assume that's what you're looking at. You need to talk to whoever the installer is to confirm the alarm brain you're buying has enough AUX channels to run the rear defroster

No not the Viper. It's the factory 2-Way Advanced Remote Start. It can be seen here: http://www.gmaccessorieszone.com/GMC/2010/...i1%5Btype%5D=gm

I had read the same when i was looking around at it. But my dealer installed it just fine in mine.

Mine has the rr defrost. but obviously its not hooked in to the 2-way remote.

Either way, they never flinched at the install and all works well. This was 2 yrs ago and still works like a champ.

That was an early rumor when the system first came out, I have the rear window defog and they installed mine, no issues. However I would save your money and put in a good aftermarket one. The range on the advanced is worthless, this is coming from someone who actually uses it daily in the winter. If you have to walk out to the vehicle to start it you might as well get in and turn the key. The 10 min runtime is also a joke and you can only restart once, then you need to reset with the key. No valet mode either. The fob is HUGE and is hard on batteries. As far as the other functions they are senseless, the novelty wears off when your pissed at the range.

I'd save your money and get a good aftermarket one. Mine is getting chucked this fall, I'm putting in either an astrostart or a compustar, both have proven excellent range.

Go read the 6,000 page remote starter thread! :) That rumor surfaced in there and I cannot recall if it was ever confirmed or not.

Personally, for about the same $$$ and hassle, you can get a FAR superior unit.

Ya I have a Directed Electronics (Python) in my '03 GMC right now. I also have the Car Com addin module so I can start my truck from any cell phone or computer. I just don't want my new '10 to have spliced wires, even though my '03 has been 100% from day 1

rear defogger is no problem. look into viper/clifford 2-way. and you can prob add a module so taht you can monitor/start/unlock/lock with your smartphone/iphone.

According to other posts IF your truck has the AP-8 RPO code

you can install either GM factory remote start systems.
