What are a good brand and style of shock to go with to soften the ride up on my truck. Its a 2wd coil over up front. I just do not like how rough it rides. Thanks!

I just installed the Monroe Reflex in my '03 extra cab about a week ago from the factory shocks...it was long overdue but made a big difference in ride quality. I researched the shocks myself for about a month before I bought. Everyone will have their opinion (Bilstein, Rancho, etc.), but from what I was able to find, this was a great shock for our trucks...and it's proved very well for me over the past week.

I liked the Edelbrock Performer IAS. Had them on my '04. Great ride, not harsh on the street.

I second the Monroes, I have Reflexes at all 4 corners, at Napa they were 50-55$ a piece, not bad... And they Run buy 3 get 1 free specials alot, so just look around online for deals.

You can do all 4 for about $150.

 

On my 2003 2wd I paid the following:

 

Front shocks # 911503= Bought from Advanced Auto Parts for $50.99 minus a 40% off coupon they have for internet orders right now (coupon code LC123), brought both shocks down to $60...I added some windshield wipers to bring total to $75 for free shipping.

Rear Shocks #911504= Bought from Amazon for $38.xx...just looked and they went up a few bucks.

 

I'm sure there may be other deals out there...this was good enough for me to bite. They do give a nice ride...tightened up the ride and makes me almost forget I'm driving a truck.

I liked the Edelbrock Performer IAS. Had them on my '04. Great ride, not harsh on the street.

 

x2 on the Edelbrocks. I had a set on my 96 RCLB Silverado. That truck had a 2-4 drop riding on 20's. they provided a great ride.

Better quality shocks are gas pressurized to prevent the fluid in the shock from boiling when the suspension is working hard. Like overheated brakes, shocks lose their damping ability when the fluid starts to boil. Gas pressurized shocks like Bilsteins provide better control over more surfaces than non-pressurized shocks like the Monroe Reflex shocks, because they won't overheat. If price isn't a factor, then go with gas pressurized shocks. They are a better value in the long run.

Do you have a levelling kit on your Z71 truck, and if so, how did your Monroes fit with the torsion bars cranked?

M. Cueva you ordered Sensa Trac's........ I loved them till I tried that first set of MonoTube's........

 

Matt, the Monroe Reflex MonoTube, for 2wd, with coils is; 911503 up front and 911504 in the rear.

 

I believe the last set I sold were 65 (walk in) each but they had a buy 3 get 1 free deal going.... So after the rebate it was 65 x 3 = 195 (but 260 up front).

 

White 05 Z71, with out a problem...... I put some on a 04 with the keys cranked all the way up (front leveled with the rear).... No over extending or noise......

My trucks not cranked, I thought about it, and just decided after I buy a sled here in novemeber I'll just go with a 6 inch lift instead.. but probably next fall for hunting season.
