2010 gmc sierra 1500. Is there an easyy way to check brake pad thickness without removing the rim?

hmm. so there arent any indicator pins on the caliper that would show pad thickness then?

Are you having an issue that you want to look for?

 

If you want to keep a general eye on things, just check the pad thickness when you do a rotation.

 

Every time I rotate my tires i check the pads and compress the calipers a bit with a c-clamp to check the slides. Just don't forget to pump the brakes before you start the truck.

just getting some low pitched squeeking from the front when coming to a stop. Only have 5000 miles on the truck. Cant imagine the brakes are already worn.

If your pads were gone in only 5000 miles, you'd have much worse symptoms than a low pitched squealing sound.

 

You're almost due for a rotation (i actually rotate every 5k) so just give them a good look then. But its probably just the metallic pads..
