Fuel Grade In Escalade

Recommended Posts

My friend just got an 09 Escalade. He wants to know if it will run without problems on regular. I told him that I believe the engine is the shared with other GM trucks and there should be no problem running it on regular. Does it need premium? I see that Caddy recommends it, not requires it.

If he can't RTM in English they do have them in Spanish.

What????????? English and Spanish have nothing to do with anything.

The 6.2L is premium recommended. If your friend dished out that much cash for a vehicle that expensive then put what the manufacturer recommends. Although not required better safe IMO. I have always run with premium in my 6.2l and never any problems knock on wood.

but isn't the 6.2 the same engine used on the trucks that recommend regular 87?

The 6.2 recommends premium and allow regular but will usually get less mileage with reg. with the computer pulling timing.

Like stated above, sounds like his priorities are a little mixed if he can buy and escalade and not afford to put gas in it that cost .30 more a gallon

Don't bother running regular in any vehicle that is equipped with the 6.2L. I did this for the first 7000 miles that I owned my truck.Last week I had to take it back to the dealership for starting/rough idling issues. The dealer had to reset he computer since the ECM had been "fooled" by running 87 Octane. No more problems since I switched to 91 Octane and I'm even getting better fuel economy.Bottom line is that you won't really save anything. The recommendation to run Premium is there for a reason.I had to find out the hard way.
