Bose Radio Probelm

I have a 2004 GMC Sierra with a factory Bose stereo. I believe that it has an amplified subwoofer under the center console, but I've never taken it apart to look. My problem is that a few days ago, I noticed that the radio did not have near the bass that it usually did. Both front speakers work fine and both rear speakers work fine - I test this using the fade option on the radio. I found the "radio amp" fuse under the hood and when I pulled it, the radio shut off. I replaced it and the radio works, but still seems to be missing a lot of bass. My best guess is that the console subwoofer is not working. I guess my next step is to start tearing it apart to 1) confirm the sub is not working; and 2) start checking wires for a loose connection. But I thought I would post here just in case others had this problem or perhaps it is a common problem with a simple solution. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
