Bluetooth Microphone

Hello all..quick question. Is the bluetooth microphone built into the truck, or is it using the microphone on the phone itself? The reason I ask is because my wife has a hell of a time hearing me when I I've got bluetooth on. I usually have my phone sitting in the cup holder. The Onstar woman seems to hear me OK most of the time, but tends to interpret my words differently occasionally. This has happened w/ my last 2 phones, but once again, I always had those sitting in the cup holder too. Yelling helps a little, but then it gets distorted some on her end

it is in the truck. i believe in the roof by the driver A-pillar or in the side of the center console. i hope someone else chimes in to give you better advice

Thanks, I figured that it probably used the Onstar mic (which seems to work just fine, w/out yelling), but just confused as to why my dang phones never work right..

 

On that note, my Onstar "phone" works just fine too. I'd blame it on the cell phone, other than it has happened on at least 2 different models thus far.

Yes, it uses the OnStar mic. And it's typically located in the center headliner console... you'll see a small "grill" opening by the sunroof/rear slider buttons

The Onstar mic is in the console above your head where the light and airbag warning is. I have the problem of the OS lady understanding me as well but, nothing wrong with my phone in the cupholder and people hearing me.

Thanks guys. Does anyone else have to talk QUITE LOUDLY to have the other person hear you? Or can you just talk in a normal tone, as if you were talking directly into your phone?

I have noticed that when someone calls my cell phone, I press the phone button on the steering wheel to answer it.

I can tell the call is connected because I can hear background sounds from the other end. Ie. birds chirping

I say "Hello"

No response from the caller

I say "Hello" again

No response from the caller again

I say "Hello" again and finally he said "Hey...."

This takes like 5 seconds before the caller will talk back.

 

Anyone else notice this?

 

To the OP, my callers seem to be able to hear me clearly after they finally respond to my "Hello"

 

I am with Verizon Wireless and have the LG VX5500 non smart phone.

my bluetooth works quite seamlessly. The other person can't tell they are on bluetooth most of the time (unless I'm in a noisy area). I can talk to them just like I was talking to someone in my truck.

 

I have used both an iPhone 3G and currently a iPhone4.

Bummer, sounds like it's just my truck. I've had a Touch Pro 2 (Windows Mobile) and currently a Samsung Vibrant (Android) and they both perform the same way.

I have the iPhone 3GS and the bluetooth works very well. No one can tell I'm in my truck usually and I speak in a normal voice.

Works great for me as well (Moto Droid and Moto Droid2). Connects quickily (don't notice any lag), I have to talk a little louder than normal, but I was also aiming at the wrong speaker I think. My only complaint is if I do Bluetooth - Voice it takes my phone a good bit to open the program and await voice commands. My phone has 3 different voice command apps pre installed, so I think its the phone trying to figure out what the heck to do.

 

Now, If the onstar mic is in the headliner console in the middle, what the heck is above the drivers head?! I've been talking into that one while I drive. People hear me fine, but I have to talk louder than normal.

The thing above the drivers head is for the auto climate control. It has a small fan inside that takes in the air and controls the temp from what it reads. Some people have complaints that they can hear the fan running.

my droid has issues connecting sometimes. I have figured out that it is the phone and not the truck. for some reason, if my LG Ally is asleep when i get in the truck, it doesn't always pair up. the truck will ring, but will fail to connect when i answer the phone via the steering wheel.

 

if the phone is not asleep when I get in the truck, all works fine without problem.
