Are they replacing them with Non-AFM lifters? If they are that's a great deal.

I doubt it. I know that GM has said no to previous requests of replacing the AFM lifters with non-AFM lifters and turning off the AFM.

What are the signs that the lifters are bad. Why did they do AFM if it's junk this pisses me off! I need to keep my truck for along time. I don't need to worry about this. Should I turn this off with my tuner?

As it was in 1981 (Cadillac 8-6-4 ). It lasted a total of one year and GM's fix to the nightmare was a simple removal of the system and converting the 360 cu in V8 into a regular V8. I do not think this system involved any lifters though.

Does anybody know what did they upgrade and what is the realistic life expectancy of these? Was your problem mainly excessive oil consumptions or noisy engine, or both?

I had mine replaced, my lifters would tap for under 10 sec on a cold start. Since i had them replaced about 2k miles ago it hasn't been a problem. My truck started the tap at 1600 miles and i got them replaced at about 3500 miles. Supposedly the lifters will disintegrate if not replaces, but not sure how true it is.

that is true, i had one lifter break in two. they replaced all of them with the updated ones after that. i'm just lucky i wasnt far from home.

I have a 2011 on order will be at dealer on december 1st. Are they using those new lifters on 2011 models??? I hope so I don't want to deal with this problem.
