Red Light, Green Light

Hey guys, my rearview mirror is playing games with me. It has two lights on the bottom of it, one on each side of the power, onstar, emergency, etc. buttons. Usually, both of them are green, but recently the right one (next to the red emergency button) has been red. One day it will be green, then red the next day. Some days it will be green when I go to work, then red when I drive home. I can't seem to find a pattern. Any ideas?

might be having an issue with the OnStar Module.

 

 

either that or it's decided it wants to be a staging light for a 1/4 drag... .

^^^what he said. I had the same issue with my '05 and they replaced some module behind the dash that has to do with the Onstar and phone functions.

Sounds like an OnStar problem. If you have an active OnStar subscription, have OnStar do a diagnostic. May be something as simple as replacing the back-up battery or a software/firmware update. Be prepared to spend some time as the last update I had done was 20 minutes. PITA

Thanks for the info guys. My OnStar subscription has expired (and I'm not going to renew it), but I should probably get it fixed. Guess I'll have to make a trip to the dealer. I was trying to avoid that.

That or pull the Onstar Fuse and be done with light all together.

IF your still under Warranty get it fixed. Someday you may need OnStar. There are plenty of people on here who don't like OnStar and think the government is listening in on you via OnStar and blah blah blah. Pay no heed to those drunken idiots. A co-worker let his subscription expire, his Sierra got stolen. He called OnStar, paid for a years subscription, and an hour later the police had the idiots who stole his truck in custody and he was on his way to getting his truck back. Yeah he had to replace some dash components and a smashed windshield but insurance was very happy to take care of that instead of writing a check for a new truck. (His wife had given birth in his truck on the way to the hospital so it had special meaning to him)

I've got the same problem. I have an active sub with onstar and when I press any of the buttons it tells me the phone is not available. Unfortunally I am 6K out of warranty.
