Possible To Reprogram Dic?

Have a 2010 GMC Sierra 1500 (Nevada Edtion) with added DIC buttons...

So..

1) Can the DIC be reprogramed to show outside temp? (yes the sensor is there as far as I can tell)

2) May there be the compass hiding somewhere inside the dash electronics? or was it always in the mirror?

Thanks, this may save me studying to be a GM tech just to answer this. :rollin:

I'm sure it can be re-programmed by the dealer. Not all vehicles came equipped to handle the compass option.

Have you thoroughly gone through the DIC menu system?

Not sure I'd want to spend the money just to know what the ambient temp is. I rarely even think to look at the temp on mine. Never look at the compass

The ambient temp guage comes in very handy for us hunters.

I've hunted for 40 years. Never worried about knowing the actual temp. In fact the less I know about the actual cold temperature, the more likely I'm gonna sit my butt out there hunting. :fume: They make all kinds of thermometers, you know. Since I have to carry one for work, a nice non-contact thermometer is nice to have. Many uses for them. Now if you just have to have the dash or mirror gauge 'cause you need all the bells and whistles, that's a whole 'nother reason

If a dealer has to do the programming expect to spend some $$$. How many $$$ is it worth to you? That's my point. Because most dealers will charge you 1 hr minimum.

Not possible to re-route that message to the ipc with a reflash.

Are you positive? The reason I ask is, I have installed a 2007 IPC in a 2004 before. If left as the original 2007 Many of the DIC displays were different. I had it reflashed for a 2004 programmed cluster and then it displayed just like the original IPC.

Admittedly the 900 series IPC could be totally different.

Well in the winter time I like to know how much of my hunting clothes (which I carry in the toolbox) to put on. I do not have to carry a thermometer for work so I find the one in the truck very handy. It is easy to underestimate how cold it is just by walking out to the truck or standing there putting on my hunting duds. But a quick look at the DIC when I drive to my hunting spot sure is a handy reference. I am not scared of the cold but I have under dressed because it "felt" warmer than it actually was. And that is when I find it hard to stay in the woods.

I'm positive. Total different serial data bus system between 800 and 900 series trucks.

Hmm, ok I guess that answers my question, I would think there is a way around, but no matter. A mirror retrofit is the easiest then.

Thanks.

I have a 2010 Texas Edition Silverado.. Outside Temperature and Compass are displayed on several selections; next to Avg. MPG, Instant MPG, etc.

Aren't the Texas and Nevada Editions basically the same? 5.3L, Z85/82, dual auto AC, 20" Eagle LS2, Int+, Ext+, HD Tow, etc.

My DIC has a vertical column of four buttons to the left of the IPC.

Am I missing the obvious?
