Mirror Says Ice

so its gonna be getting cold soon and ive noticed before it will say ice instead of the temp. why does it do this?

Its a warning to let you know there may be ice on the roads.

Around here you can drive in sloppy wet snow all day and then when the sun goes down, it can quickly turn into very slippery snot. With the automatic climate control keeping me toasty at 70F it's hard to tell when and how fast the the temps outside are dropping causing the road conditions to get dicey. It really does help having the outside air temp readings in a cold climate. When the OAT starts to hit 34F I slow down and pay much more attention to the road conditions. I have other vehicles that turn on a yellow light when it hits 36F. It has saved my bacon a few times.

 

It's just a reminder. Most folks don't look at the OAT often, even I don't but when it starts to hit the 36-34F area and the roads are wet...... buyer beware.
