I just got back from taking my baseline dyno reading with Justin from Black Bear, what a nice guy. Anyway, We are doing a before and after with my truck since there isn’t much info on the 6.2. We did a baseline today to get stock HP, I will post the videos in a bit here. Tomorrow I get my intake and exhaust and then in 2 weeks we are going to do the tune with the dyno, then I will have results. I’m pretty excited to see what happens. I don’t have the results to post yet but I do know what they basically were.

 

325 hp

350 tq

This is on 89 octane, which he tells me is not what I should run. I will post the results when he emails them to me.

Also, would like to see the dyno graphs... peak hp and tq is nice, but usuable hp and tq is where its at.. how often do you drive your truck wide open?

The printer wasnt working so he will email me all of that at some point today I think. I am pretty heavy footed so quite often I guess.

Numbers look good for a stock truck. The dyno really gets your heart going dosen't it? The stock exhaust on these trucks is really good. Nice rumble and bark but ZERO hwy drone.

 

I'll be watching to see this. Thanks a lot for shareing. I too have a 6.2 and it's nice to see some real numbers. I don't have a dyno nearby so I'll just have to enjoy mine with the sotp gauge. ARH, blackbear, K&N, here I come!

Today I pick up my truck with a Magnaflow muffler, they said there is no need to replace the factory pipe. I also got intake but that won’t be put on until Justin is ready. Price for intake and muffler installed was about 515.00. Not bad considering I was going to spend 1k on Borla only to find out the stock setup is done very well. Justin also told me to run 91 octane, apparently GM retards the timing to get rid of engine knock to accept lower grade fuel, the result, loss of HP with lower octane.

Just to confirm, those are rear wheel numbers on 89 octane using a loaded dyno? Dang... Would be nice to do both the stock and tuned results on the same fuel. Otherwise, it's a guess as to how much difference each factors into the "after" results.

I am running my stock cat back with American Racing LT's and currently no cats in the H-pipe. I have both cats and W/O. The sound is amazing with the stock exhaust. Further, the factory is using a minimum of 3.25" to 3.5" pipe, whereas the aftermarket is using 3". I listened to their argument in one case about the 3" pipe making more torque, but it's a bunch of bull. From my experience, the factory pipe makes more power, AND sounds better. Further the factory pipe has no drone like most all of the aftermarket pipes.

I added a cold air intake and a tune to my 6.2 also.

The headers and tune made the biggest difference, my truck feels like a hot rod!

You are correct, I wouldnt mind running the 89 again but that is up to Justin and I think his tunes are made for 91. At the exhaust shop the guy showed me a dyno from an 09 silvy with the 6.2 (I thought only VMax was avalible in 09)and it only was around 295. I don’t know if the tranny, it being an 2011 made it better or even the octane being 87 in the silvy(speculation). I’m no dyno expert so I am guessing. I do know that upping the octane does not have any effect if your vehicle is rated at 87 unless you have decent mods, but it is not the same with this truck I guess due to timing retardation(?).

Keeping an eye on this thread. I just sent my scan file to Justin for the preliminary tuning on my 6.2. Can't wait to get it done.

    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?   
    • Do you think this width might affect the chalk test with a higher pressure closer to 65psi? I think lowering the pressure makes sense to get the tread to lay flatter
