Hit A Deer...very Impressed With These Trucks.

Hey guys!

 

Just wanted to tell you my story!

 

I was on my way to my girlfriends farm towing a trailer with a horse inside. Anyways, a deer came out of the trees up the road. I slowed down, but it wasnt enough. I hit the deer at about 85kmph. I could not swerve due to me pulling a loaded horse trailer, so I had to hit the deer. I hit the deer on the centre of the truck and pulled over to look at the damage. I was shocked to see that all I had was a small crack on the buttom of the front bumper, near the lower valance and the skid plate was a bit dented inward since I ran the deer over, and horse was fine!

 

Apart from that, NO other damage. I couldn't believe how well the truck took it. Me and my girlfriend were laughing of the lack of damage. The deer was dead after that!

 

Just wanted to say i was impressed! who knows, maybe the 5" front lift made a difference

Now I'm no Animal rights activist or such like. But I do find it disturbing that you find it amusing and even worthy of posting a thread on here, about hitting and killing a Deer with your truck.

 

Hope your Horse wasn't too badly shocked !!

Because of over-population due to decline in hunters, and loss of natural habitat due to development, the deer population has grown to the point that the number killed by vehicles is almost equal to the number killed by hunting. And most of that road-kill meat is lost due to contamination. Deer population density per square mile is higher here than in any other state, based on figures from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks. Fixing those vehicles costs way more than shooting that gun. Mighty good healthy eating, too.

 

Remember, deer have cloven hooves and chew the cud, so it's OK!

I'm not part of the Politically Correct brigade, I just think killing animals in a humane way is much better than hitting one with a truck and (probably) not killing it instantaniously.

 

I'm British and Deers are a bit of a rarity in the UK, so maybe I've got a soft spot for them. Either that, or I was brain washed watching Bambi as a child.

There are a ton out here in Indiana. Driving back after thanksgiving it was right before dusk. We stopped counting deer at about 35 along I65. Just glad one didnt run out it would have been bad.

glad the truck made it out alright. as for the deer, it happens. its a tough call as to which is a more humane way for them to die. if you hit them with a big enough truck as was this case itll likely die right away or just after being hit, if youre a good shot you can put one down right away, if youre a bad shot though youll just wouldn it and end up tracking it for hours while it bleeds out. we hit one with a buddies car one night that made its way into the city. it was heading right for the hiway, we hit it on an offrampo, itcartwheeled over the car and ran back to where it came from. had we not hit it, by accident of course, it would have ended up on the hiway and done all sorts of damage. as for how it made out, who knows, we hit it in a small car at a low speed, it could be around still now or it could have died several hours later.

There are dead deer all over the roads here in NC. Seems that the population is getting out of control. It is a major fear of mine when I travel the roads at dusk to dawn. They just jump out, you can't help but hit them. It would be cool if there was a way to keep them from just running out in front of vehicles.

here in PA theres deer everywhere. on average, going to the convinence store 5 miles away, ill see 10-15 deer. only a matter of time before one pops out while im screaming down a dirt road. thats why i have a brush guard.
