Everyone who keeps a pistol or anything else valuable in their trucks needs to google Console Vault. It's a very well built, custom fit lock box that installs in the center console (or in the under-seat "bin" for the 900s with a jump seat)/ I had one in my Taco and it was the best mod for that truck, period. Kept the pistol, my iPod and whatever else needed securing in there. Come summer regardless of which truck I end up with, there will be one of these in there before it's second tank of gas. They are all differently sized due to the different consoles in trucks, but my Tacoma one could hold a 5" 1911 just fine. Normally something much smaller lived in there but it's nice to know you can secure the big stuff too.

$350 + tax.

Have on order a Blackhawk SpecOps collaspable stock w/ Knoxx recoil.. costing an additional $85.

Appreciate the heads up on lock box but I already have locking lower center console. Reason I'm doing pistol mount is for fast access. I'm insured against theft.

How good is the lock on the seat bottom? I've only seen pics and I'm not too impressed by it- looks like someone could pry it open by hand? As for insurance, yeah if the gun gets stolen, you'll get money for it, but the damage that can be done by a stolen gun is much worse than if the crook gets my iPod. It is a couple hundred bucks well spent IMO.

For fast access, another thing I've seen that I liked was someone took a kydex (hard plastic) holster, attached the open end of a accessory rail (like what would be on a tac light) and then mounted the rail (what would be on the gun normally) to the lower dash. Made it so the pistol stuck out vertically and ready for access.

I don't have any guns, lost them all in a terrible boating accident, had every one of them with me going target shooting....

I usually just wear it on my hip the whole time. On road trips I slip it between the seats, or put it in the console. My Serpa holster came with an extra mount that you could screw or bolt to a flat surface. I always keep my sidearm on me. Doesn't make sense to leave the house with it just to leave it in the rig. A cross draw or shoulder holster may be worth consideration.

Amen to that. Anywhere I go, my G27 goes.

I'm glad someone finally said this...I carry all the time and when in my truck unless it's a long ride (I'm talking probably 3 hours or more) mine just stays on my hip. If thats not comfortable for you guys then u might just have the wrong holster. Why bring it out if ur going to leave it in the truck to get stolen, it's not going to help you if ur not in the truck.

That's nice! I wish the newer trucks had the flip open console like the older ones. Makes it much easier to access the gun. I hate how the new ones have to open toward the back.

Like I said before, my gun is pretty much always on my hip. I keep my SP101 in the truck just in case I have to run somewhere real quick & I forget to grab my gun.
