Tune Up (pugs & Wires)

I have a 2005 Sierra 5.3 with 79k miles. I was wondering when I should look to have new plugs and wires put on? Anything else outside of normal maint. that I should have done as well?

Plugs and wires good for at least 100k. Use AC delco when changing. Or NGK. You might check condition of belts, hoses and coolant. After 5 years I'd flush and put new Dex in it. Cheap insurance. Serviced the trans or diff(s) yet? You'll get plenty of other recommendations.....

I'd say the factory wires, which I believe are a high quality silicone insulated wire, are good for at least 200,000 miles. I had a 99 with 220,000 on it and the wires were still good when I sold it a couple months ago.

While the wires tend to last pretty well, the ends tend to show some signs of deterioration as the years roll by. I found that my ends were in pretty poor shape after 6 years so I replaced plugs (with the same AC plugs in it) and the wires at 100000 miles, oh and cap and rotor as well. The tune up was noticiable the first time I started it.
