Well the cd player on my 05 silverado 1500 decided to stop taking and ejecting cds. I have the Bose system single CD with xm/steering wheel controls. I would like to change out the head unit for aftermarket. Can i keep the stock Bose speakers, but add a amp and a sub, maybe 12", and still be able to use my steering wheel controls? Anyone that has done a similar setup, could you please let me know what you did exactly. Thanks very much.

Can't say exactly since I dont own anything that new, but yes this can be done. I hate to just point, but jump over to crutchfield.com or call them! they have all the products and tech help you need to accomplish this and most likely fitted sub boxes for your vehicle! Hope this helps! Good luck!

i don't see any issue with keeping the bose speakers. i believe only certain decks allow steering wheel controls. and you can add an amp and subs, you will just need a deck that can control them subs.

if the after market radio has a remote there is a adapter you can buy that will let you keep your swc but not all radios let you. I think pioneer does

your truck has a factory amp. you will have to get a a oem box that turns on factory amp. plus your harness,, i have a 03 jimmy did same thing i have a jvc screen deck .steering wheel bottons work after i spent 100$ just for the adapter.. adding a 12 would be loud in a small cab like yours ..i sugest you run with a singal 10 . it will sound better .but you will have to run new wires and its own amp .
