Handgun Owners, Do You Carry All The Time?

I was working towards getting my CCW and after hearing about how ILLEAGL it is to carry in

so many places in a LEGAL to carry state, I said bag it. The one time that I'd carry it into a

gas station that sells booze, just to get a pack of gum or something, and I'd be sittin the back

of a cop car. No thanks. You almost get in LESS trouble if you are carrying and NOT licenced to do

so than you do if you are and get caught doing something stupidly unlawfull WHILE carrying.

Do some homework- Michigan has numerous laws but it isn't as bad as you're making it out to be. There is absolutely no law that says you cannot go into a gas station that sells.

1. *Schools or school property but may carry in the while in a vehicle on school property while dropping off or picking up if a parent or legal guardian. (Act 719 allows carry in parking lots. See below)

2. Public or private day care center, public or private child caring agency, or public or private child placing agency.

3. Sports arena or stadium 4. A tavern where the primary source of income is the sale of alcoholic liquor by the glass consumed on the

premises

5. Any property or facility owned or operated by a church, synagogue, mosque, temple, or other place of worship, unless the presiding official allows concealed weapons

6. An entertainment facility that the individual knows or should know has a seating capacity of 2,500 or more

7. A hospital

8. A dormitory or classroom of a community college, college, or university

9. A Casino

10. Premises does not include parking areas of the above places 1 thru 8. The parking lots of Casino’s are off Limits to those with a permit to carry.

And TX carry restrictions aren't that great to be honest judging by the TX list from that same site. NH only prohibits courthouses and the federally controlled places like schools and the sterile area of airports. No gun signs here hold zero legal ground, I walk by them routinely while carrying.

These signs hold quite a bit of legal ground:

The 51% sign is required to be posted on the premises of establishments where the possession of any concealed weapon is illegal. These are establishments that are licensed to sell alcoholic beverages for on-premises consumption whose alcohol sales constitutes more than half of their gross receipts. These signs have 51% in large red letters superimposed over the warning which notes that possession of a concealed weapon on the premises is a felony.

Establishments licensed to sell alcoholic beverages for off-premise consumption or establishments licensed to sell for on-premises consumption whose alcohol sales are 50% or less of total gross receipts are required to post a sign that warns that the unlicensed possession of a concealed weapon is a felony. The holder of a concealed handgun license may lawfully possess a concealed handgun on these premises.

I'm talking about NH, not Texas. In NH there is no law against carrying in bars (though carrying while drunk is against the law of course). Some places here put up signs saying "no concealed weapons allowed" or such crap, but there is no legal way to enforce that- all the property owner can do is ask you to leave and if you refuse it's criminal trespass.

Oh, gotcha. TX is fairly restrictive. You can't carry in churhes, hospitals, amusement parks, sporting events, etc. You can't be intoxicated either.

You can't be intoxicated either.

I'd hope every state is like this. :D NH is still real open about it, which is surprising as they've killed off just about every other part of the "Live Free or Die" motto they stamp on the license plates here.

I carry a Glock 27 on my person everywhere I go. The only two places I can't carry is a Federal Court House or Correctional Facility.

Same here. However, I carry my Fullsize Glock 22C w/ Federal Hydra-Shok. And it Goes EVEYWHERE I do. Take it off in the truck for easier access, but it goes back in the holster as soon as I step out. Completely concealed as well.

Same size as a G19 (9mm) or a 23 (.40). I chose 357 Sig cause I like finishing first. :D

my god hollow points, if you use that thing you don't want to kill anybody

In handgun class we were told [off the record and unofficially, of course] that if you are in a self defense situation you should make damn sure you kill them to reduce the chance of legal complications later.

There is also some logic in using HPs or other fragmenting rounds so they explode in the bad guy rather that using FMJs that go through the bad guy and kill the neighbor's kid.

well being a 357 its probably going through the guy either way...fun fact the 45 cal is the only pistol round that can be fired underwater :D

Glock sells "underwater" spring cups for the G19 so I'd presume 9mm could also be fired underwater. I'm not worried- with as little time as I spend on water, let alone under it, I'll deal with my gun not being optimal for shooting there. :)

i ment a 45 cal has enough energy stored in the case to be fired under water...no mods needed

Carry my Kahr CW9 about 75% of the time, XD40 in my truck. Pretty restrictive laws here so many places you cant carry. Right across the river in MN much more lenient. Going tomorrow to pick up a CW40 and a XDM40.

Had my license for almost 3 years now and carry all the time where I'm legally allowed...I'm never in the places that I'm not allowed to so it never affects me except restaurants that serve alcohol. We (Ohio) are trying to pass the law so we can but it just recently got shot down.

90% of the time my carry gun is my S&W titanium .357 snub nose...it's in my pocket as I type... :D

As far as the person from Michigan who mentioned purchasing alcohol at a gas station and it being illegal while carrying I'm willing to bet that is not Michigan law but I'm too lazy to look it up right now.

Why the question on hollow points? Hollow points are the ONLY ammo you should use for personal defense. FMJ should only be used at the range & target practice.

Is Jacksonville not safe or something? I don't live in Florida, so I was just wondering after reading a couple of comments on here.

Jacksonville is the largest city by land area in the US. We have the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and no county sheriff because they consolidated the whole city a couple decades ago. I think it is asking too much of one force (while rather large) to patrol this big of city (by land). A part of the county is still somewhat rural (where I live). Jacksonville supports urban sprawl because the developers are too involved in politics and developments are crammed in everywhere. After a while they all go down hill and crime moves into once nice neighborhoods. There are some really bad ghettos around here that I wouldn't walk through with a bullet proof vest and an M16. I have heard from several people that think the crime and drugs got worse here after Katrina hit LA and ran the thugs out of there. The ghetto crowed refers to Jax as "Da bang'em" or something like that. After I am done with college I hope to move to a surrounding county and plan to commute to work. I can't stand this town anymore.

It's no different than any other med-large city. Some areas are good, and some not so good. I tend to go downtown and you get a mix of people there and my experience is that some people are idiots.

Downtown Jax is pretty rough. I work in San Marco but avoid the rest of downtown at all costs unless I am going to the sports complex. There are some rough areas down there.

Jacksonville is the armpit of FL! A lot of folks there, didn't hear that the civil war ended, and America won.

True, but Jax has its share of trash from all races. You can ignore the ignorant people, but its hard to ignore the drug lords and thugs who don't care who they shoot.

    • My 2025 Silverado 1500 had to receive a brand-new engine (long block) under warranty last month at only around 16,500 miles. Before the replacement, the truck repeatedly displayed "Engine Oil Level Low" warnings, even though the Oil Life Monitor still showed around 50% remaining after about 6,000 miles since my last oil change. After seeing the warning several times, I checked the dipstick with the engine cold, and the oil level was completely normal. The next day, the message escalated to "Add Engine Oil." At first, I assumed it was just a faulty oil level sensor, so I brought the truck to the dealership. After inspecting the engine, they found internal cylinder wall scoring and ultimately replaced the entire long block under warranty. Before this happened, I was planning to install a 4-inch lift and suspension upgrade on my truck. After needing a new engine at just 16,500 miles, I honestly don't see the point anymore. I also contacted GM to ask whether my vehicle qualified for a buyback, but I was informed that it does not at this time. Anyway, this experience has left me with serious concerns about the long-term reliability of this engine. I sincerely hope NHTSA expands the current investigation or recall to include 2025 model and performs a thorough inspection of affected vehicles. My biggest concern is that these engines may fail shortly after the powertrain warranty expires. If GM truly stands behind this engine, then at the very least, please consider extending the powertrain warranty to 10 years for affected owners. That would go a long way toward restoring customer confidence.
    • Without exception but then I'm the odd duck, right? I know what goes into that test, how it is calculated and thus how to beat it. But EPA values are often not beaten by the general public and the government has in past years adjusted the means and methods to come to those values to more closely approximate "Joe Average".    The only real trick to beating that EPA average is don't drive like "Joe Average".    It's the same method you used to profit from "Economic Migration" and in doing so beat the 'stats'. But you, like me, are not "Joe Average".     The thing you don't seem to grasp is this "Purchasing Power Index" isn't forward looking. It doesn't predict what it going to be but looks backward and states what it was. They are not telling us what the THINK, they are telling us what they MEASURED. Example:    Wife says "I'm going to lose 40 pounds by Christmas". May she does, maybe she doesn't but the doctors office who weighed her when she made that statement and again at Christmas only REPORTS what the RESULT was. You and I can banter about what was possible and what aunt Tilly did till the cows come home but the result is the result. Arguing otherwise is.....irrational. That's all I'm saying. This isn't about:      What you are calling a 'Statistic' is a RESULT not a CALCUATION and as a result the RULE. Like gravity as a rule, it can not be broken.
    • Just wanted to say thank you for posting this. Years later, your thread is still helping Silverado owners.   I bought my 2025 Silverado 1500 in January 2025, and I've had what feels like the exact same rattle since day one. After reading your findings, I believe my truck has the same issue with the cable carrier contacting the rear sliding window. To be honest, I had pretty much given up on pursuing the issue. It wasn't until I recently drove another brand's pickup that I realized just how quiet their cabin was—and how noisy mine has been all along. On my truck, the rattle happens on almost any paved road, gets even worse on rougher pavement, and I can even hear it during braking and acceleration.   I actually referenced your thread when submitting my case to GM, hoping they'll recognize this as a recurring issue instead of treating it as an isolated incident. The reason I reached out to GM first is because my dealership told me they would need to keep the truck for at least two days just to diagnose the problem. I was concerned that even after two days, they still might not be able to identify the source of the rattle before giving the truck back to me. I had also asked a few dealerships about this issue during previous service visits, but none of them seemed to know what was causing it or had a solution. That's why I decided to contact GM directly first, hoping they might already have an official repair procedure or guidance for this issue.   I also hope GM eventually comes up with an official fix for this problem. I have a feeling there are many Silverado owners experiencing the same rattle, but most either choose to live with it or simply don't know what the cause is.   Really appreciate you taking the time to document your diagnosis. Your post is still making a difference years later.
    • I have 2 choices.
    • Do you have access to BP fuels? Some stations have Silver 91 E-0 priced the same as their 93 E-10.  There is a local Marathon with 90 alky free for $6 a gallon but I go down the road to BP for $5-ish. They also have a 100 E-0 but that stuff is $10 a pop.
