Handgun Owners, Do You Carry All The Time?

Although I carry a springfield XD .40 in my truck at all times when you guys start talking about HOME defense I dont use a pistol at all. I have a Mossberg Persuader loaded with 3" mags. The gun looks almost exactly like this one but with a fore-end pistol grip too.

Just bought the Sig Sauer P238 yesterday, haven't got to put any rounds through it yet but man is it ever nice to carry. I was carrying the Glock 27 .40 which is a subcompact but still heavy I also have a Sig P220 .45 but that thing will pull your pants down

So many Glocks!

I carry whenever legally possible, so pretty much 99.9% of the time. If a place has a no guns sign, I take my business elsewhere unless I have no other option. I'm usually carrying my XD9 with my LCP as a backup. During the hotter months, just my LCP.

For home defense, just a standard Mossberg 500 or my AK-74 depending on which one I decide to unpack and keep handy after my previous trip to the range.

Do you like your XD? I am thinking about buying the XD9M with the 3" barrel. I just turned 21 so I can finally go and get my CWP. I don't have much handgun experience, so I will deffinately need to spend some time at the range before I considering carrying.

It's a great gun to shoot, and good for learning and it's got the same reliability reputation that Glock has. I honestly haven't shot too many other handguns so I don't have much to compare it to. I would recommend finding a local range that allows you to rent handguns and see if they will let you try some so that you can get a feel for what works best with your body's mechanics and your preferences.

A shotty is good but too messy, and an AK? You might kill a couple of neighbors too. :seeya:

XD's are okay but I have seen a couple of failures with moderate use. Of course you never really know how someone treats/maintains there weapons. I'm a firearms instructor and Glocks are by and large the most reliable weapons that I have experience with.

I can't at work and most of the places I travel to work don't honor the NH permit but whenever possible I do. Weekends 100% of the time and other than that its usually in my car. Glock 32 in 357 Sig.

get a non resident Florida permit that will clear up a lot of your not allowed to carry in states issues. Florida seems to be the gold standard for non resident permits as so many states accept it.

As far as the op's original question. Any and all times where it is legal. The state of Florida gives me the right to be safe and I exercise that right daily. My EDC rig is a pocket knife, and my two Rugers. A P345 and a .357 flavored LCR. I might go back to carrying my Security Six as my main soon though. We have open carry fishing events here in Florida that I still have to make it out to as well.

The places I end up most for work won't honor their permit either. I spend a lot of time down in Mass (being next door obviously), NY (honors no non-res permits and doesn't issue their own), IL and the west coast. IL is a no-carry state and lets just say I call the west coast the left coast for more than just it's location. :seeya:

Man yall need to move down south. Or better yet do everyone a favor and vote out those liberal law makers :seeya:

NH has some of the loosest carry laws in the country, I really can't ask for anything to change here because short of having an official castle doctrine law (NH attorney general office is typically friendly to self defense shootings) there isn't much to improve on. My issue lies with the fact I travel heavily for work and lots of the states I end up in don't honor my permit.

Yeah I forgot you weren't from Kennedy Land. LOL

I'll forgive you just once since you live so far away but please don't ever mistake New Hampshire for the Commiewealth of Massachusetts ever again. :seeya: Things aren't perfect here but there is a reason I know dozens and dozens of people who have hopped over here, and for good reason.

    • That makes sense, and I think you are describing the real product problem. Capturing data is the easy part. If the owner or technician has to manually dig through five minutes of millisecond-level logs, the product has already failed. The device would be at the ECM harness, not at the OBD port, so I agree that data retrieval and event marking need to be thought through carefully. The way I am thinking about the architecture is: The recorder itself should not depend on a phone, app, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or cloud connection to capture the event. It should always keep a local rolling buffer and lock the event locally. A button, phone app, or small cabin device would only act as an event marker. If the driver feels a stumble and presses the button 10–30 seconds later, the pre-buffer has to already contain the useful data. For data retrieval, the practical options would be a sealed service USB lead, Wi-Fi download, or a phone/cabin companion device. I would not expect the owner to remove the ECM-side module or work with raw files directly. The cloud or AI side would be for interpretation, not for capturing the event. The truck may have no connection when the issue happens, so the evidence has to be saved locally first. After that, cloud processing could help decode the data, compare it against baselines, and generate a readable report. For the first version, I would keep the automatic triggers conservative and objective: driver event marker bus-off error passive voltage drop / brownout device reset FIFO or queue overflow a normally periodic message disappearing side-to-side communication mismatch, if the topology supports that For “learning normal,” I agree with your point, but I would not want to overclaim it as automatic root-cause diagnosis at first. A realistic first step would be learned baseline comparison for that specific vehicle and operating condition. For example, a value would only be compared against similar conditions: RPM range load / MAP throttle position gear / vehicle speed coolant and oil temperature battery voltage AFM/DFM state, if decoded and validated Then the report could flag things like: this periodic message disappeared compared with its normal timing this value deviated from this vehicle’s normal range under similar conditions the same abnormal pattern repeated after the same type of event the anomaly occurred together with voltage, oil-pressure, misfire, or communication changes But I would still call that “abnormal pattern detected,” not “replace this part,” unless there is enough validated repair data behind it. So the intended product would not be “here is a huge log.” It would need to be an event package: what triggered the capture how much pre/post data was preserved what changed before and after the event whether the device itself reset, overflowed, or saw a bus error selected graphs around the event raw data only as supporting evidence From your perspective, what would make this kind of report useful instead of just another datalog? For example: What are the top 5 parameters or events you would want highlighted first? Would you trust a learned baseline for that specific vehicle, or would you prefer fixed thresholds? How much false-positive flagging would be acceptable before you stopped looking at the reports? What would a one-page report need to show for an independent shop to take it seriously? For misfire, AFM/DFM, oil pressure, or U-code complaints, what would you want the tool to flag automatically?
