Leather Install

Thanks...its cool until you forget there's no hardest and pit your head back to nothingness

I highly recommend putting the headrests back in. They are there to help prevent whiplash injuries in the event you should get rear-ended. If this happens, you will wish they were there.

I really like the look of your two-tone covers. I thought long and hard about going this route before I did mine http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/index.php?...leather+install In the end, I went with all black, but with contrasting stitching.

I agree with your assessment - glad I chose to do this myself. I saved quite a few bucks, and spent some quality time in the garage.

Definitely didn't know that...I had actually though how much it would suck to try hit without the head rests there...maybe ill put em back in, but I don't drive my truck much. Thanks for the heads up though.

I was going to say something about that before, but I figured you already knew by your comment (Lets see how many people comment on the headrests). I'm not one to cry about what people do to their vehicles, even HIDs in Halogen headlamps as much as it angers me, but you should REALLY think about tossing them back in. I could be wrong, but it might even be illegal to remove headrests, not to mention your insurance may even go up if they find out. It really is a pretty big deal. Something as simple as rolling your head back to stretch/rest could do serious damage without a headrest if your muscle memory is expecting it, let alone simply things like rough roads or unexpected pot holes. A car accident is guaranteed to cause injury. I met a guy that was doing Toyota recalls on the same property I was working at that told me a story about his first pickup, a Chevy C/K series. He said he bought it because it was the only one out with adjustable headrests that actually protected his head/neck (he was a real tall dude).

Seriously, the leather looks super nice, but really consider putting the headrests back in. Even if you only drive it once in a blue moon. Accidents happen any time, and statistically I have heard most happen close to home during short "grocery" runs.

nice writeup. is it me or do they seem very wrinkled? like they should be tighter. Just the way it looks to me.

Why are they so wrinkled???? I figured they would be tighter..... So they wouldn't wrinkle when they break in...

Thts as tight as I could get them, I honestly felt that if I pulled them any more that they would rip, which they actually did on the back seats in one spot. I guess maybe if I used some glue or something during the install it might've helped? But they arent really that bad, once I put the backings back on they tightened up a little more.

Great project and great look.

Headrests when properly positioned can prevent some pretty significant injuries. If I had a vote, I'd vote to put them back on.

nice job! mine look just like yours except i did perforated inserts and grey stitching.

they do look really loose, but you said the backing wasn't on yet? get a heat gun/hair dryer to heat them up and pound them into place. that should tighten them up more. i'm sure you can find a youtube video on it.

i had a upholstery shop do mine. they said they did enough of them to know to add an extra layer of foam to get them tighter. i'm sure glad they did that cuz they are super soft and comfy now!

here's a pic of mine treated with some Adam's Leather Conditioner:
