Blurring Liscence Plates In Posted Pictures

Ive noticed that alot of people on here use picture editing software to blurr, swirl, or cover their liscence plates before they post their pictures. Is that really necessary? Ive never done it, but should I? What can people really get from knowing your plate number? Im not being a smart ass or anything. Im truly currious about it. Maybe there is more tied to my plate numbers than I realize.

With all the software that is out there, it is possible for someone to get your personal information based upon your license plate number. I've heard of cases where vehicles have been stolen and then when recovered and the thief apprehended, the cops were told by the thief(s) that they got the person's personal info based upon the license plate number and went to steal that ride they liked.

Considering thousands of people have the option of looking at my plate on a daily basis, I'm not too worried about posting it on the Internet.

yeah I never quite understood it myself..

the only thing that I could ever come up with it that even though every one every where sees your vehicle and plate #, in most cases they don't know all the mods you have to the vehicle..

here on the interwebs people post up all their mods along with pictures, so it makes them a more "visible" target, a dishonest person now has a list of all your mods, your license plate info, and is probably a good click away from you so it won't be traced back to them, but rather "assumed" to have been a local theif..

How many license plates do you read when driving down the highway? How many can you read.

If you're not concerned about posting your license plate on the internet then you probably have no problem putting your name and address in your sign as well.... for someone that wants it, your license plate is just as good.

IMO, its a simple precaution. $.02

I understand why people do it. It's basically extra security in an unsecure world (wide-web). But the way I see it though if someone wants that info bad enough, they're gonna get it. I've posted pics before of my plates unblurred. If you wanna throw the extra block down by blurring the plates, more power to ya.

I don't allow my plates to be shown either. And to take it one step further in the real world I place a parking receipt over my trucks VIN. The less people know the better.

Wow, I think some of these resposnes are a little extreme, but I guess I can see how some points are valid. I never expected this to be such a hot topic. Maybe Ill start distorting my plates when I post a picture.

But what happens when you lock your keys in your truck? You know any GM dealer can cut you a new key if you have the VIN and a photo ID.

Plus one million.

It always cracks me up when people blur out a plate so that people halfway across the country can't see it, yet thousands of people a day can see it that are right nearby.

Makes NO sense.

    • Brought my 2015 Colorado into the dealership to check my touch screen issues, had that ghost touch thing happening. They said I needed a new touch screen and they could either order me one for $500. The lady at the service deck was nice enough to tell me I could order a touch screen online for less, she did stipulate that the touch screen had to be factory OEM, you can't pair an aftermarket screen to my radio seeing it was 2015, it had to be a GM factory OEM only. I found a few on Amazon and Ebay by the numbers on the back of the old screen, DJ080PA-01A GM# 22740886, Some said "OEM" in the description and others just said "Replacement". Would a replacement be the same as a OEM as long as it had the same numbers on the back of the screen? In some of the descriptions they also show different brand names but same numbers, is that an issue?
    • I have both but typically use the 4 legged walker (wheels on front, ski's on back).   The four wheeler is starting to be used on "longer" outdoor walks.  The 4 legged walker is particularly helpful in practicing good walking posture.  Both of my knees are at different stages of recovery and I'm trying to not develop poor habits.  I can actually manage with a cane but it's very difficult not to favor one leg over the other.  My PT recommends I continue with my 4 legged walker for a while.  Yesterday was four weeks since my last knee replacement and I'm excited about my progress to date.  It has been a hell of a rough journey so far but it is exciting to witness  systematic and continuous improvement.  I went for years watching the decline of my "mobility".  It seems that everyday now I am alerting my wife to something I can do now that I couldn't a day or two ago!  I encourage anyone facing the prospect of knee replacement to share any concerns with others who have had the surgery.  It isn't an instant fix but rather is a considerable amount of short term pain for long term gain.  Recovery time and pain levels vary for individuals post surgery but the end results are typically very positive and I've never encountered anyone regretting having had the surgery.
    • The lifter issue can be dealt with by shorter oil changes and quality oil IMO.
    • Got heavy rain, hail and light rain yesterday.
    • I'm putting in an A-pillar pod/gauges, and I'm asking if anybody can identify a (preferably) fuse for a switched power and illumination circuit on the driver's side interior fuse panel. Offhand, everything I checked with a test light was constant-hot, and I'd much rather uses a piggyback fuse. I can certainly find a wire, but I'd rather not half-tap.   Thanks in advance for any help.
