What the fWONK, isn`t a guy supposed to plug the truck in to aid starting?

It takes my truck 4-6 tries to run, cranks great, just fires and dies. It has been to the dealer for the issue, of course it had warmed up by the time they could take it in, they checked the block heater and said it was functioning, I do beleive it is functioning aswell. As the block does warm up according to my laser thermometer. I beleive it is a programming issues or a problem with the Electronic Throttle body.

They explaination given by the serice advisor (yeah i know :driving:) was that if plugged in too long the engine is a warm tempurature, but the intake sensor is cold, resulting in overfueling when starting. That in itself makes me think it should not be programmed to do so. :) Like hell am i not going to plug it in just to see if it wil start with out warming the engine at all.

The last two days when the truck starts it runs rough, obviously misfiring, along with it the CEL flashes, stability and traction control lights flash on the dash. I will bring home my scanner tonight and see if I can pull any codes.

Does anyone else, even with other engines have this issue???

How cold is it there. Yesterday my truck sat out all day, when I went to pull it in the garage last night it was around 5 degrees. Fired right up (no block heater here either).

I agree with you that there is a problem and it should be fixed but I think you will find these trucks start pretty easily in the cold. I have had no problems starting down to -38C without being plugged in. If I am not mistaken, the block heater does not even work if it is warmer than -18C.

Make them give you a loaner and leave your truck at the dealer overnite and have them start it when it cold. I would even be there the next morning when they try to start it. If they can't fix it go to another dealer. Good Luck hope you get your problem resolved!!

Garbage gas. How much ethanol are they pumping in your tanks up there? Either way, sounds like the

octane is too high OR, there is an engine driveability issue. If there was a serious issue with the engine though,

it should flag an ses light and set a dtc so I'm still leaning on garbage gas. It's horrible on us down here, I know

that. :driving:

This may sound stupid, but if you leave your truck there over-night, tell them to leave it outside or it'll sit in a warm garage all night. ;)

The answer the dealer gave sounds logical but how do they fix that? If he leaves it with the dealership outside, and they test it not plugged it,.. then he'll be upset and if they plug it in and does it but come to the same conclusion, it will still leave him upset. Its like a no-win situation unless they can fix it.

But upon duplication of the concern, if they know what they are doing, they can gather the information needed

to go forward with repairing it. Just guessing without duplicating the concern is a complete waste of time. AND

money.

I run E85 (70% min ethanol). Never had an issue in zero degree or below zero temps.

I run Shell 91, scanned the truck this morning, two codes P0300, (random misfire) both the same code occured twice. the dealer is crammed in this weather, and of course it will be -4c by tommorow. :driving:

It was -26C this morning.

IMO opinion the truck should start at any tempurature irregardless if its plugged in at all. Many people leave vehicles plugged in for days, sometimes a guy has to go to work when the phone rings, the truck has to be warm and ready to roll!

You're one of the 1,000 that I've delt with/talked to that can say that.

However, I wasn't entirely blaming it all on ethanol either.

Do you have forced induction on this truck, it's a long shot but it could be the problem?

Not yet, completly stock, not tuned, only performance change was a muffler first week i had it. :driving:
