Separating Bowtie And Black Outside Molding

Recommended Posts

I need to repaint my front bowtie due to rock chips. The first time I taped it off and painted it and wasn't too thrilled with the results. I want to try to separate the center bowtie portion from the black outside portion. I've heard of the oven method with headlights and figured that it might work for the bowtie as well.

Has anybody done it this way? What temp should I turn the oven to? I'm thinking the lowest temp it can go and leave it in there for a few minutes.

I tried the heat gun method on a spare bowtie from my old truck and ended up breaking it so I don't really want to try that way again.
