patsfan Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Just curious what dyno oil comes in the 2011 Sierra 4.3L engines and what have you changed to? I'm thinking of going to Mobil 1 5W-30 fully synthetic that meets dexos1 and GM6094M but the manual says 5W-30 and no mention of dexos1. I'm assuming the manual is older, since my first free oil change at the dealer lists dexos1 oil. I'm also curious if I'll have to buy the oil at the dealership or if any aftermarket stores offer it, so I can do my own change in the future.
Daryl LBZ Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Wow no Valvoline on that list. I figured theyd be one of the first ones to meet the requirement.

foghorn23 Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Wow no Valvoline on that list. I figured theyd be one of the first ones to meet the requirement. They probably do meet the spec, but didn't pay GM the licensing fee to be "approved." I certainly wouldn't be afraid of Valvoline. I had an uncle that ran a service station and was a Valvoline dealer. He used to give my dad oil by the case during the 70's 80's & early 90's. I know oil has certainly improved since then, but never had any problems in Ford and GM trucks. Good stuff.... especially for the price.
Daryl LBZ Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Ive used Valvoline before, and I like it. I use Mobil 1 as of now, but I have no problem with Valvoline. I think my dad uses it in the Monte Carlo.
