Center Seat Armrest Compartment Latch Is Stuck, Compartement Will Not

The center seat armrest in my 01 silverado just recently quit unlatching the compartment on the back of the seat. Has anyone else had this issue? I popped the assembly apart and can't get it working. Not sure if something broke or not but nothing is obviously out of place. I did find a loose plastic cylinder with a rubber cover rolling around which adds to my confusion. If anyone has a link to a diagram or instructions showing how to reinstall your help would be very much appreciated.

Had the same problem on 00 after I got it used. The latch needs some good lube to work properly.

First you need to get it open and that can take skill and patience. I used a plastic pry stick and helped to push in and pry the lid open while pushing in on the latch button. Once open I sprayed it with a lock lube I purchased from a locksmith years ago. It smells horrible but works great. I think it is called 'Ballistal', not sure.

I had the same issue with my 00. I have to admit I thought there The rubberized cylinder is used to block the latch from working, so the lid can't open up, when the seat compartment is upright ( seating position ). Spend a little time to figure out how it works, then you will know where to apply lubricant. Good Luck!!

The latch is TOAST!

My 01 latch button fell apart also and the whole console assembly

was replaced under warranty.

The 2 little cylinders are held in place by friction and pushed back by

a thin metal strip behind the plastic release button.

Some brainey engineer worked overtime on that set up !!!!!!!!

Best to take the whole console out and inside and do some close-up

surgery on it yourself.
