Traction Control

After switching off the button for Traction Control in my 2010 Sierra, it still comes on at a certain point. Very annoying considering the snow we got in the midwest. Is there a way to override it and keep it off?

When you turn it off, hold the button for another few seconds. This will also turn off Stabilitrak. That should solve your problem.

Taken from your owners manual........

The traction control disable button is located on the instrument panel below the climate controls.

The traction control part of StabiliTrak can be turned off by pressing and releasing the StabiliTrak button if both systems (traction control and StabiliTrak) were previously on. To disable both TCS and StabiliTrak, press and hold the button for five seconds.

TCS and StabiliTrak can be turned on by pressing and releasing the StabiliTrak button if not automatically shut off for any other reason.

When TCS or StabiliTrak is turned off, the StabiliTrak light and the appropriate message will be displayed on the DIC to warn the driver. The vehicle will still have brake-traction control when traction control is off, but will not be able to use the engine speed management system. See "Traction Control Operation" next for more information.

When the traction control system has been turned off, system noises may still be heard as a result of the brake-traction control coming on.

It is recommended to leave the system on for normal driving conditions, but it may be necessary to turn the system off if the vehicle is stuck in sand, mud, ice or snow, and you want to "rock" the vehicle to attempt to free it. It may also be necessary to turn off the system when driving in extreme off-road conditions where high wheel spin is required.

When the transfer case is in 4LO, the stability system is automatically disabled, the StabiliTrak light comes on and the STABILITRAK OFF message will appear on the DIC. Both traction control and StabiliTrak are automatically disabled in this condition.

I have seen the same questions on this forum a hundred times over now that could all be answered by opening up the owners manual. I try to tell everyone to put it in the bathroom so that they have something to read while they are taking care of business. We should post up the manuals to allow a search for info to reference in there as well.

They are online. Sign up on the gm owner center (yahoo site). You can get recall info on your vehicle, pull up PDF manuals, log your milage and setup service.

This is what gets on my nerves when I have everything turned off. I was pulling my dads rig out of the back yard Monday morning and this is what was going on with my truck with everything turned off and in 2 Hi. Hmm I wonder if Justin at Blackbear can fix this problem... :shakehead:

You didn't have everything turned off then. Press and hold until you see "Stability off" and THEN, everything is off. :D

Bugs the crap out of me too. I've held the button until it says Stabilitrak Off, try and kick the back end out around a corner and still hear the brakes kicking on and off and the light on the dash still flashes.

Yes I did have everything off. I held the button for 5 seconds and it said Traction Control off and Stabilitrack off. It still tried to control wheel spin with the brakes like posted above.

That is right. It is never off and as time goes by ST comes on more and more and you have to 5 second it again. I totally hate it. Not worth it for an experienced drver. I can control a drift at 5. Just wish I could pull a fuse or something.
