Just Bought An Airaid Jr Intake

I just bought an Airaid Jr Intake and I cant wait for it to get here. I want to be able to install it as soon as it arrives. So, that got me to wondering. Does the filter come pre oiled and ready to use, or do I need to oil it first? If its not pre oiled, does it come wth oil for the first treatment or will I have to buy a filter charging kit? I assume that if I need to buy one, K&N kit from my local parts store will work.

I know a dry flow filter would have been better, but I saved $22 and got free shipping because I bought the kit. The dry flow filter would have required buying the tube and the filter seperately and then I wouldnt have gotten the free shipping deal. With the new baby, I have to make sacrifices somewhere. $20 her and $20 there adds up to alot of baby food and diapers. So please dont hate on me for being cheap. :dunno:

the kits i have bought have come both ways. oiled and unoiled. but all the unoiled ones came with the oil for the first treatment. and i hear ya on the baby issue. when you have a kid you automatically become cheap. thats they way it works

Yeah, and the wife was cheap before the baby. Now, you can almost here her squeek when she walks. :P:P:thumbs:

I tell people all the time, "I had lots of money when I was single". I had the same expenses, except for her car note, and lots of cool shit to play with too. Now, nothing.

I guess some people would say a savings account is a good thing. :dunno:

Does my old heart good to hear someone admit to being "cheap". Wear that proudly, and keep looking for the bargains!

I'm sure if it is un-oiled, it will come with some. If not, it is probably already done (at least that is what I assumed since mine didn't come with any). I just put mine in and haven't had any issues in over a year from it (also haven't had any performance improvements from it either in over a year :P)

Just saying since you guys are talking about saving money.

Plus since I'm on here from the hospital room right now where my wife and I just had our first kid Monday :dunno:

Well, atta boy, NICK! Hope all is going well. They'll look fine piled up in that big white Chevy when you take 'em home from the hospital.

Remember, anytime you oil or re-oil a filter, cram it full and cover the outside with newspaper for a day, or at least over night to wick away the excess oil so you won't foul up your MAF.

Congrat's on the little one!

Why did you buy the Airaid Jr for? It won't save you any gas.

Probably for the same reason I bought the MIT: we had the money and decided WE didn't need another pair of shoes or another cutesy purse.

I bought it because I found the last one someone had on Amazon.com for $95 shipped, plus I was getting a blackbear tune. I did get them both around the same time, so its hard to tell. It's definitely not what they advertise "more MPG, better response, more HP". Feels the same, just louder.

Of course, everyone says they are a waste anyways unless you have some sort of exhaust setup (got to get air out as quick as you suck it in), which I don't.

It's not being cheap, it's being frugal. You can't save if you spend more than you make, nor save for you kids college fund. :dunno:

Common strategies of frugality include the reduction of waste, curbing costly habits, suppressing instant gratification by means of fiscal self-restraint, seeking efficiency, avoiding traps, defying expensive social norms, embracing cost-free options, using barter, and staying well-informed about local circumstances and both market and product/service realities. Frugal living is practiced by those who aim to cut expenses, have more money, and get the most they possibly can from their money.[2]

I'm Cheap but not dumb. I could have bought a used z71 (possibly deal with problems) or the new LS I did... I could have bought Firestone destination Tires (a decent tire) or BF Goodrich At's (my favorite) ...

Being smart with money isn't always buying the cheapest. It's getting the most for the money you are spending.

to me it would be worth oiling the filter once a year to save the $20. you've still got the intake ;)

I'm hoping no one takes that wrong-- I was looking at a 25 thousand dollar '09 Z71 or my 27 thousand dollar 2011 was what I was getting at.

Dumb and Stupid are out spending Daddy's money. Old Mr. Cheap is watching his money and ready to jump all over most any good deal that comes along.

So basically more "bang for your buck". Which I am all for. I have bought a full CAI and it never made a difference in the trucks performance(maybe louder). But I have bought the airaid tube off of a fellow GM-trucks member for a very good deal and a billet grille off Ebay for the cheap also.

I like the newspaper idea, I didn't do that and on a road trip my overdrive wasn't shifting right and my check engine light came on. Cleaned my MAF sensor and took care of the problem. I will use newspaper next time.....How do you guys get the picyure of your truck on there?
