Bed Liner Decisions

Currently I have one of those rubber mats in the bed of my truck, but I have been thinking that I might like to give the bed a bit more protection.

I have been considering the Bed Rug, typical plastic bed liner and spray on liner. Looking to hear everyone's opinions and impressions of any of these or anything else I may have not considered.

I typically use my bed for hauling camping gear, the occasional building supply material for renovations and such around the house or throwing in an air mattress at the drive in and I'd like to be able to put my snowmobile in the back of my truck at some point. Now regardless of which I choose I'd likely throw in a piece of plywood to protect it from the carbide studs on my track if hauling a snowmobile. Since I don't typically fill my box with stone or gravel I'm thinking that the Bed Rug might meet my needs the best and save my knees when I'm unloading camping gear.

I'd go with the Rino Liner spray on especially since you plan on putting a snowmobile in it. Ive contemplated getting the plastic liner or rug but got the spray on liner in Mississauga and trust me the peace of mind knowing that you can put whatever back there is worth it. I cant tell you how many times i've had crap in there dirt+Mud from camping, scaffolding ect. and all I need to do is pull into the coin wash and spray it all out. Its a little more but worth it.

I have heard good things about those, is that what you have in your new truck?

x2 on the rhino liner. very very durable and all the guys who do rhino lines around me have lifetime chip warranties so if it for some reason chips, they fix it for free. id def reccommend getting rhino over the bedrails too.

also protects bed from rusting, and the rhino liner looks the best. little pricey but worth it

I'm in the same situation. Anybody know roughly how much a spray in liner weighs? I'm just wondering because when I'm driving all those highway miles I like to keep my truck as light as possible to help gas mileage. Want to be sure it won't effect it. (I could be mistaken, but it seems like my mileage is a little worse when I'm carrying 3-4 extra people.)

Linex. Enough said.

Toss that rubber mat on top and you got non-slip surface thats easy on the knees.

I've seen that rhino stuff flake off from rough use. Although they have some new stuff I wasn't aware of seen it in another thread.

Plastic inserts... how is that even an option.

I would go with the Bed rug, I had it in my last truck and loved it. It was in it for 5 years and looked liked new when I totaled the truck. I put everything in it from building supplies, gravel, dirt, motors, transmission, camping supplies, 4 wheeler. Another thing I liked about it was when I was able to sleep in the bed without a matress. I would wash it out at the car wash and it would be dry when I would got home. I am getting one for my silverado next week when I get my tax return.

speed liner. look into that also. i have it and its great. they spray it super thick. and its not slick. its kind of rubbery so if you throw something back there it doesnt slide around.

I've had a spray in liners, drop in liners, no liners.... and my favorite is Line-X.

Heck, I put in Line-X in my current truck, and I've got a tonneau on it.

Maybe I'm a little paranoid, but with a drop in, or even carpet, if anything sand like or gravel like gets between the liner and bed it will scratch and eventually grind. A spray in liner bonds to the metal, so nothing will get between.

If you're convinced you want a drop in liner, I'd suggest looking for spray in dealer, and see if they'll sell you a used drop in. I know I saw a huge stack in the back of the place I got my spray in done. But then, you might wonder why so many people are willing to just walk away from them, and think about getting a quote for a spray in while you're there!

I would choose line-x over rhino. It looks alot better and was very durable in my last truck. I hauled gravel, concrete, scrap metal, etc. and no damage. Cost was around $500 for 8' bed + over the rails.

I have had both. I had a spray in liner in my Tacoma before I bought my big boy truck 05 Sierra. I liked the spray in because it was tough and easy to clean out. I bought my Sierra and it had the GMC bed rug in it. I was not sure about durability so I asked my father in law. He said that his neighbor for 20 years uses one and puts his sled, dirt bike and his construction materials in it. He said that it looked brand new after he washed it everytime. He told me he would pull it out at home spray it down through some detergent on it scrub with a push broom and spray it off. It would be in the sun for 20 minutes and would be dry and ready for another round. Mind you he was getting oil and other nasty stuff off of it.

So IMO after having both I would go with the bed rug. You can sleep on it. You can haul whatever you want on it. And it is easy on the knees. I am sure you will like whatever you decide to go with.

    • Hi friends - first time poster. I have a 2015 sierra Denali with 150k miles, I’m the second owner and she’s given me 75k of great service. I run a pulse AFM disable device. Starting Thursday when I exited the freeway after a short local ride it started idling rough, with an obvious misfire shake and was down on low end power.  I got it home and hooked it up to my scannner and found no codes but in live data a pretty bad misfire on cylinder 5. I replaced the coil, plug and wire with all new OE replacements (Delphi gn10165 coil, acdelco wire and 41-168 plug). It’s still behaving the same way after firing the parts cannon at it.   I know cyl 5 is a non AFM cylinder so I am not thinking this is AFM related but I’m kinda at a loss. injector? Bent pushrod? It’s running too well over 1k rpm to suggest those IMO. Has anyone chase this issue before and what was it? Any suggestions?
    • 2017 Silverado L83 5.3l 6speed transmission Hello, not a new member but havent posted in a while and my old signup info isnt working so had to create a new account. anyways, I have an issue with my truck and hope someone can spread some light on whats happening: -when it goes to 4cyl mode it makes a clunk sound (but not when coasting or going downhill) -when in 4 cyl mode and under load it makes a load pulsating sound (not a tick). -goes away completely when in M5 gear or when plugging in an AFM delete. Im guessing it is one of 2 things but im not convinced of either to be honest. 1. lifter stuck in v8 mode 2. torque converter shudder realistically it doesn't seem like the TC as there is no physical vibration , and it never happens in v8 mode. but maybe? and wouldnt a lifter make a sound whether with load or not? any ideas let me know please. thank you!
    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?.
    • He is not saying that an SAE *W20 will have more viscosity than a *W40 due to MORE VII polymers. He is saying that although multiple *W40 may post in the PDS the same or similar 100 C and 150 C viscosities that the blenders choice of modifier TYPE and AMOUNT to get his chosen base to grade will not give identical real world viscosities in shear and at temperature. All will pass the SII test but not all will pass the 100 C HTHS (unpublished value) testing the blender does and relies on to get the required by law "percentage improvement' referenced to his last great work.    Tis the problem with the lie. Once told others are required to support it.
    • I have a `25, 1500 that auto sets on incline. Never knew that at first. I have the electronic shifter. Just think if it didn`t do that? Unlike a mechanical shift that you can muscle out of park, how would you get this thing out? That would be a problem.   What I found out later is, I don`t have to push the button to release. Just put it in gear.   Setting parameters? Don`t know if it`s possible.
