22" Tire Pressure

I have a Escalade with the factory 22" tire option, and I cannot fill the tires up to the correct tire pressure for my tires without the high pressure alarm coming in. I thought I read somewhere on the internet that when GM installed the 22's the technician was supposed to reprogram something and place a sticker in the door for the 22" tire information. The sticker in my door jam still has the 18" tire info and the obvious alarm issue because the tire pressure is 45psi.

I would start with the 18" tire pressure and do a chalk test. Do not use the the MAX PSI on the tire side wall thats only the pressure that its not to be exceeded.

PSI is PSI, regardless of tire size. It should not matter how big the tire is because the bigger the volume, the more inches there are, not more pounds. 45 pounds-per-square-inch means that each inch has 45 pounds pushing it, regardless of how many inches there are.

Does that make any sense to anyone but me???

That being said, as long as you run the preassure that you were running in the factory tires you should be OK. Make sure that you are using the preassure for the vehicle that is listed on the door, then increase the pressure a few pounds at a time if they still look low. Unless you are towing or hauling stuff, you shouldnt need more than about 38pis per tire.

If that doesnt fix that alarm problem youre having, then maybe you need a reprogram after all.

correction, that is MAX PSI fully loaded and cold.. Cold temp is figured at 60F degrees ambient, and figure 1-2 psi is gained for every 10F degrees above that as the tire heats up and the air expands, all of which is taken into account by the tire manufacturers for the total overall rating of the tire.

I purchased the 22 inch wheels for my truck as well. They came in already balanced and filled at 45 PSI from the factory. Watched the dealer take them off the pallet and put them on the truck. They did not put the new sticker put on the door jamb like they should have. As a result, every time I take the truck to a different dealer by my work for an oil change they drop the pressure to 35 PSI.

I ended up calling the dealer that I bought the wheels from to get another opinion and they said they prefer to leave them at 45 so they wear better. The tech noted that anything less than 40 would cause premature wear since the tire has a lower profile and a wider footprint. I have Bridgestone Dueler A/T's by the way.

My 2015 has 22s and the door jam sticker say the truck has 22s and the recommended pressure is 35psi. The max tire pressure on the tire is 44psi.
