I Need Help With Diagnosis

Hello forum guru's, My 02 XL's wipers stopped working yesterday during a snow storm. I don't think it's something like a fuse or relay or switch,(hope it is$) but last week I had to reset the clock due to a power surge or something in the vehicle.

Anyone out there had similar experience? Maybe other issues in store for me? Any help, ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

My 96 S10 had a recall for the same thing. They quit working on me in a blinding rain storm at night on the interstate with concrete barriers on both sides of my lane. Not making it up. Scary.

MY 96 2500 HAD A RECALL FOR THE MOTOR, I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER AND THEY FIXED IT NO CHARGE. CHECK THE AUTOZONE.COM SET UP AN ACCOUNT AND YOU CAN SEE WHAT RECALLS YOUR TRUCK HAS. HOPE THIS HELPS

I don't know what the 2002 has, but my 98 Yukon has a circuit board under the cover on the wiper motor that had problems.

I have an 03 and had to replace the circuit board in it. No problems once I done this.

Thanks all for the suggestions and help. I'm going to open up the circuit board on Monday and see what it looks like, maybe do some spot soldering. I'll post the results that evening. Once again, thanks.

Free tip---works all the time!!

These wiper motor circuit boards lose their ground. SO, all you have to do is fabricate up a ground wire. Connect the ground wire to the wiper case itself, next to the circuit board. Now connect the other side of the wire to a good sheetmetal ground, such as the firewall.

When I do this, I use 2 small self-tapping sheetmetal screws. For the ground wire ends, I used small ringlets; or "eyelets"

Save yourself the headache. Add the ground wire. Your wipers will never mess up again !!

Here's what you want:

I usually drill thru a mounting "ear" on the motor case, and then thru the firewall.

Take off the wiper arm and see if the motor turns like it should. I had a simular problem, all I had to do was replace the wiper arm...worth a shot I guess!

Sorry for the lagging response, and thanks for all of the suggestions. I'm happy to report that the issue was resolved. I removed the cover on the wiper motor exposing the chip board, there was a blown resistor on the board that was causing the malfunction. I found the part locally for $72, more than a ground wire but the wipers are good as new. The whole process lasted about an hour to fix.

Thanks again everyone and good luck!
