Any big advantages of the F1 over the G2? They are about $100 price difference.. and I read that the F1 can hold up to snow, etc. but I don't need to worry about that down here by the beach. Anyone else have any input on this?

-Exterior Panels: F1 are fiberglass, versus the G2 which are painted aluminum. Fiberglass won't dent like aluminum (ie, hailstorm), no paint to scratch/scuff, and it should stay a bit cooler to the touch.

-Weight: F1 weighs 50 lbs, G2 weighs 55 lbs. Minimal improvement in terms of efficiency, but I guess every pound saved helps.

-Weight Capacity (evenly distributed): F1 can handle 400 lbs, G2 only 250 lbs. So if you wanna fold it partly open and use it as a "bench" to sit on it'll handle more weight, and just generally a sturdier build.

-Hinges: F1 are flush, G2 are rounded. Haven't seen a good comparison pic to see the difference on this feature though, guess it's just a sleeker look.

-Hardware: F1 are upgraded (injection molded latch housings, aircraft aluminum frames) vs the G2 (aluminum latch housings, aluminum frames), probably for the improved strength and weight savings.

-Mounting Clamps: F1 has 8 clamps, G2 has 6. More clamps should mean a more secure mount.

-Warranty: F1 has 2 years, G2 only 1 year.

-Tailgate Closing... (edited out my incorrect info)

To me the F1 would be worth the extra cost. Stronger, lighter, more durable. Or there's also the HD, which is in between the G2 and the F1 in features and cost. Page 13 of this BakFlip catalog (http://digital.turn-page.com/issue/25421) has a chart comparing the differences between the BakFlip versions.

-Tailgate Closing: Don't quote me on this one, but my understanding is that with the F1 you can open and close the tailgate without having to do anything with the BakFlip. With the G2 in order to close the tailgate you have to first unlatch the last panel of the G2 and raise it slightly, close the tailgate first, and then close the G2 because it sits down on top of the tailgate for it to seal correctly. I pretty sure I read somewhere that the F1 has a different kind of seal that eliminates the need to do that (again don't quote me on that, I could be imagining having read that since I can't find anything offhand that confirms that).

The fiberglass panels on top are more robust. They don't dent like the thin aluminum sheets of the G2 and HD. Not to mention, it is a lot cooler than aluminum. I live in Florida and I can't imagine the sun baking the goods in the bed if it had an aluminum sheet that absorbs the sun/heat.

Also, if I ever get hit by hail again (with the common Florida thunderstorms), the F1 would be fine. Aluminum would be totally ruined (even the HD models, I read reviews they don't last through hail).

By the way, you do NEED to open the top to close the tailgate. Mine also came with only 6 clamps (most likely because it's a 5'8"shortbed)

The major con is that there is no system to secure the panels if you want to just flip back one or two. The wind will catch them and flip them back. I use bungee cords to hold them in place, but it seems some type of integrated system is needed.

My cover locks down at every position.

Cool, thanks for clarifying that for me.

I bought my truck about a year ago and it had a bed rug in it. I love that thing. It is awesome and a lot tuffer than I thought it would be. I put a shell on my truck since I take my dog with me a lot and he is a little big for the front seat :dunno: (French Mastiff). Once it warms up I am going to pull it out and clean it up. My father in law had a friend that pulled his out a couple times a year and would just through some laundry detergent on it and scrub it with a push broom. Then he would rinse it off and let it dry in the sun. Each time he did it my father in law said it would look like new. Enjoy the truck looks great and I like the cover.

Looks good! Those BedRugs intrigue me and is a consideration but I'm not sure yet. It would probably be a lot easier on the knees when pulling camping gear out of the bed.

Okay, got my BakFlip F1 installed...awesome. Makes life a lot easier in bear country to lock up coolers. Maybe a bear will test specified weight criteria. Hope not. Installed in seconds and is pretty easy to open and close. The only down side: the BakBox was too wide for me too. The dealer said there is no issue and soemthign I did worng (TruckCustomizers.com) but Bak rep said they have had some issues with BakBox and the width. So I am in a holding pattern to find out what give. Mine is only a 1/2" issue, so should be easy to resolve. I think someone forgot to deal with the offset distance of the fastener holes to the side mounts.

One big question: Does the Bak Box jump around a lot when off road considering it just hangs from bed rails?

Cut off 1/2" with a cut-off wheel like I did and your issue is solved. I don't think the bakbox will have issues as long as your top is unfolded down flat. If the top was unfolded, it certainly can "jump out" of alignment.

The bakbox did fall off the rail once, one of their screws got stripped which allowed it to fall apart so I used a longer screw and it's been 100% ever since I fixed it.

The more I look at this the more I like the idea of the BedRug.

I haven't regretted it one bit! It's been great so far and I've put in a ton of gear in the back. Still looks like new.

In some areas though, I could "feel" that the foam has been compressed from something really heavy sitting on it for a while, but you can't see it.

I would be surprised if a bear couldn't find his way in through these covers. I have seen them rip through the side of a camper (no one home) to get to the food inside.

Also, these do latch in every position but you still have to use a bungee to drive down the road with it. Only the bottom panel is latched when flipped up.

How hard would it be to remove the bed rug if you had to haul something heavy & dirty (engine for example) ?

Most of the sutff I use my bed for the bed rug would work well, but sometimes, some nasty stuff get hauled too.
