Techron

Recommended Posts

My gage has been acting up for a couple years now. Last week the parts store had Techron buy 1 get 1 free. I poured 4 12 oz bottles in and filled up. After a few days the gage started reading right. I got 2 more bottles yesterday so I can add them at next fill up. I am hoping the contacts get cleaned and only need a couple bottles every 1000 miles or so. Anyone seen this before? My truck is an '01 notorious for this problem.

#05-00-89-078B: GM Fuel System Treatment PLUS, Fuel Sending Unit Corrosion and Fuel System Deposits - (Feb 6, 2008)

Subject: GM Fuel System Treatment PLUS, Fuel Sending Unit Corrosion and Fuel System Deposits

Models: 2008 and Prior GM Passenger Cars and Trucks (including Saturn)

2008 and Prior HUMMER H2, H3

2005-2008 Saab 9-7X

Important : The GM Fuel System Treatment PLUS is not recommended for use with diesel fuel. The GM Fuel System Treatment PLUS is specially formulated for use in gasoline and/or E85 fuels.

GM Fuel System Treatment PLUS, P/N 88861011 (for U.S. ACDelco®, use 88861013) (in Canada, 88861012), is now available for use in gasoline engines.

Added Benefits and Uses

The PLUS portion of GM Fuel System Treatment PLUS is the addition of a filmer additive that, when used regularly, can protect fuel system sending units from the corrosive effects of certain sulfur contaminants found in some of today's gasoline.

Sulfur contamination can disrupt electrical continuity of certain fuel sending units and lead to erratic or false fuel gauge readings. With scheduled usage, GM Fuel System Treatment PLUS protects against the effects of harmful sulfurs in gasoline.

The Four Benefits:

Just pour in one bottle of the GM Fuel System Treatment PLUS into the fuel tank when refueling around each oil change interval:

• Cleans -- Sulfur corrosion from fuel gauge sending units.

• Prevents -- Harmful sulfur components from attacking sensitive fuel system electronics.

• Protects -- By coating metallic surfaces of the fuel system.

• Removes -- Engine deposits left from use of poor quality fuels.

As Rich noted above in his post, it is the same stuff. It's been discussed on here many times. Just use the Chevron Techron. Use the "Fuel system cleaner", not the "Injector" formula". Make sure you're using the proper concentrations. Use the 20 oz. bottle, or double the 12 oz. bottle for a 20 gal tank.

If you've already treated your system as much as you state, with the proper concentrations, you could simply have a sending unit failing. Not uncommon

Sorry you didn't see the humor.

THANKS for clarifying that!! Heard may take numerous applications and tankfulls to clear up or spend about 1k to fix.Parts only.

Yesterday I filled up the tank, it was 1/2 full, I had put 48 ounces of Techron in at the last fill a week ago. I put 24 more ounces in and filled it up. Just like before the gage went to empty then floated around. I think Techron can PREVENT some sulphur problems on the contacts but can't remove them. Anyway at least I know the valves and injectors are getting a good cleaning. Looks like a new pump unit is due. Would rather replace it while working then wait for it to fail.

I heard a lot of issues with the sulfur is the vehicle is not being used often enough.I have the same gas in tank since november when it was strored for the salt covered roads in the northeast.C5 has 2 tanks.I have a chemical mixing plant going on with STAYBILL(spelling?) and 24 oz.TECHRON.The gauge bottom out again.Time to burn this tank up.One more application if bottoms out again i'll have to spend the big bucks. The injectors and valves gotta look like jewelery by now.
