Locking Doors

I own an '08 Chevrolet Silverado & an '07 GMC Yukon. Since i have had these vehicles they both have locked themselves (a couple of times with the keys in them). It happens the same way it would if you locked the vehicles with the remote. The vehicles beep the horn and lock all 4 doors. No dealer in my area seems to have heard of this happening. I cant own the only 2 GM vehicles in the world that this has happened to, I am hoping someone else has heard of this as well and can give me some insight as what may be causing this.

Thanks.

do you accidently tap the power lock button when exiting the vehicle?

these vehicles have something called DELAYED LOCKING, if you tap the power door lock when exiting the truck (and I have done it several times in error, by just getting out) 30 seconds after the last door closed it will lock and arm the alarm..

I may have and not noticed it. The time frame (30 seconds) is about right. I'll try and see when it does it again if i accidentally hit the power lock.

My father in law compained to me about this with his '09. Since he is over 60 and not exactly tech savvy, I figure he was accidentally hitting buttons or something. Last week, when washing mine, it happened to me. I had the keys in the cup holder, and when I went to open the door to wipe down the sills and door frames, it was locked. I had to go into the house to get the other fob. Did I hit the button on the door when I closed it? Maybe. I didn't hear the bell ring or the horn chirp.

Maybe it can be disabled? I didn't know about the delayed locking. As long as I can remember, my 07 locks as soon as you hit the button on the door.

you have the option to turn delayed locking on or off. Also, when you double lock (tap lock on the key fob twice in short succession) it overrides the delayed locking (assuming it's engadged) . you can turn it on and off using the DIC and buttons

My wifes 07 H3 will do this on occasion too. Hers locks the drivers side door only though. She has learned to keep the keys with her every time she gets out of the truck.

I always use the delayed lock, so much so that I will hit everytime I get out of the truck, even when I should not. Sometimes the chime will sound, sometimes it does not to warn me. Perhaps you are getting the same thing, the chime is not sounding to warn you of setting the delay lock?

get a spare key. one without the transponder, just for the door. weld a 1/4" x2 bolt to the frame rail, facing in. somehwere that you can't see it, but you can easily reach under to it. drill a hole in the key, get a nylon locking wingnut. problem solved

That bolt/wing nut idea is a good one. That, or pay the Onstar fee if you frequently lock the keys in the car. I would agree that you are prob hitting the lock button on the way out. My g/f does this every once in a while. If you do leave the keys in the truck, make sure to leave them all the way in the ignition. The truck will lock, then unlock right away if this is the case.

I just found this feature in the last week or so. It drove me nuts that I had to hit the lock button twice to see the door lock knobs go down. One day I hit the lock button only once and closed the door walking away I heard a short horn beep like I had done it with the remote and the doors locked. Mine is only about 15 seconds but always makes the short horn beep.

On another note, I have a sister in law that always hits the rear window button almost every time she exits the rear door of the truck! (thank God for the window lock out feature!)
