Advanced 2-way Remote Upgrade

Recommended Posts

Posted

I installed the 2way upgrade myself and the antenna is below the rear window and can be installed without removing the rear seat.

The module was the trickest part getting behind the c-pillar trim.

I'm not really impressed with the extra so called range, I don't think it was worth buying and now I only have 1 remote.

I'm with ya, If I had to do it again, I'd do something else... I do like it,.. but I'm not overly impressed either.

theres nothing at all behind my back seat

I believe the module that works with your stock key phobs is located behind the rear seat, at least on Crew cabs. When you get the 2-way remote upgrade package they replace the stock module with the 2-way one and then mount the antenna under the back window. They have to take the seat out I believe.

i had my whole truck appart. nothing behind the rear seats

Kit Usage

This kit is designed to add 2-way remote start with extended range and enhanced functionality. It is for vehicles equipped with remote vehicle start from the factory, vehicles with option code AP3. If the vehicle is not equipped with remote vehicle start, use a kit for vehicles equipped with option codes AU0 or AP8.

The 2-Way RCDLR has been designed to operate with the antenna included in the kit. The antenna type, gain, cable loss, and impedance have been chosen to meet FCC and Industry Canada requirements for radio communication equipment. Do not substitute the antenna supplied with any other part. Any modifications to the antenna or use of an antenna not designed for this system could void authorization to use this equipment.

Procedure

  1. Important: Please review this entire procedure before trying to perform it.

  2. If the vehicle is equipped with the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), use the Scan Tool to perform the Copy and Paste TPM Information procedure. This will extract the TPM Tire Type information as well as the sensor data from the existing RCDLR prior to its replacement and store this information in the scan tool. After RCDLR replacement, the tire type and sensor data stored in the scan tool is written to the new RCDLR, negating the need to perform the tire type setup and sensor learn procedure. This must be performed BEFORE removing the old RCDLR. Refer to Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Programming and Setup.
  3. Remove the factory keyless entry antenna. Refer to Keyless Entry Antenna Replacement.
  4. Physically replace the factory Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR) with the 2-way RCDLR included in the kit.The module in on the left C pillar.
  5. 1803361.gif
  6. Install the antenna in the location specific to the antenna part number. The part number is XXXXX the tag near the antenna connector. Refer to 2-Way Remote Start, Door Lock, and Information Display Antenna Package Installation.
  7. The 2-Way RCDLR will not work until it is programmed. Using the Scan Tool and SPS terminal, program the 2-Way RCDLR. Select the controller "RCDLR Remote Control Door Lock Receiver 2 Way - with Yellow Label". Select the options that the VIN is equipped with. After the 2-Way RCDLR is programmed, if the vehicle is equipped with TPMS, perform the Paste TPM Information procedure or perform the tire type and pressure setup and sensor learn procedure. Refer to Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Programming and Setup.
  8. Check the 2-Way transmitter battery for full charge. Press the unlock button on the 2-Way transmitter eight times consecutively and then check the battery gauge in the upper right corner of the LCD display. If the battery icon is flashing, shows two bars or less, or the display flickers or fades out, replace the battery. Only if the gauge reads full (three bars), the transmitter can be released to the customer. To replace the battery: 6.1. Use a lithium coin cell battery, type CR2450 (GM P/N 12493150).6.2. Gently pry the transmitter halves apart all the way around, using a nylon trim panel tool or similar object, starting at the notch at the bottom.6.3. Remove the battery and insert a new one, making sure the positive side is down (towards the back of the transmitter).6.4. Snap the transmitter halves together, making sure the gap is even all the way around.6.5. Check the new battery. Press the unlock button 8 times consecutively and then check the battery gauge.
  9. Program the 2-way transmitter and the vehicles factory transmitters to the new RCDLR.
  10. Turn the ignition off for 1 minute.
  11. Turn the ignition on.
  12. Using the scan tool, retrieve any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from all of the modules.
  13. Clear all DTCs.
  14. Remove the scan tool.
  15. Operate the 2-way and factory transmitters in order to verify correct system operation. Refer to Keyless Entry System Description and Operation. Press a command button with the vehicle ignition ON in order to synchronize the 2-Way transmitter clock, if equipped, to the vehicle clock.
  16. Reassemble. Refer to Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Replacement.
  17. Drive the vehicle above 25 mph for at least 2 minutes. This is to update the tire pressure displays.
  18. Add the transmitters to the customer key rings.
  19. Place the 2-Way Advanced Remote Start owner manual in instrument panel compartment.
  20. Keep the vehicle dry. Allow 6-8 hours, at 15°C (60°F), for the antenna adhesive to cure after installation

My kit cost me 190.00 Can.

When I bought the "enhanced remote" I was under the impression that it would let you know if someone was breaking into my truck when the horn was going off.

Check step 8 above, your original remotes will work.

Hope this helps some of you answer a few questions.

I just purchased a new 2011 GMC 2500HD SLT w/6.0 gas, crewcab 4x4. very happy so far, my truck came with the factory remote start and using AP3 with standard fobs. i have been all over the web sites looking for this info. i asked sales then went to the service dept, how do i upgrade my standard fobs and get the LCD fobs. Nobody could give me a straight answer until now. the above appears to be the very simple solution. i would rather stay with the factory remote, since these vehicles are becoming so computer dependent, if i have any problems...it becomes their problem. have had my turn at 3rd party installs, and seems something always gets crossed and the finger pointing starts. Anyway, thank you for a very clear and detailed description to the upgrade, even i can understand this explaination. i am going to copy this and take it back to my dealer and see if i can get them to check this out.

Did you have to install the updated hood latch with the hood sensor switch? If so, where do the two wires connect to?

how long are the wires on the latch assembly ? does your truck already have remote start ?

check your glove box for these RPO codes as your kit requires these AU0 and HP2
