Hard Drive/computer Drive Noise From Dash

Recommended Posts

I just purchased my first GM vehicle after being a Ford man for over 30 years. I have the 2011 Yukon Denali and am wondering if the hard drive/computer drive noise is normal. It sounds like a normal computer drive where it doesn't run continous but I notice it at all times whether the vehicle is runing or not.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks

it's not a fan, it is the GPS DVD drive, it runs (boots) up when you unlock the doors with the key fob (which wakes up the vehicles network).

it will also run/shuffle the disc for about 2 minutes after you turn the key off. Once the network shuts down, which is about 2-3 minutes after you arm the alarm, it stops.

but I know most definitely it is the Navigation DVD. and if you have a movie DVD in the unit, it does it as well..

so the nav unit requires a dvd in a drive to run???

of course, the mapping and routing programming is contained on the DVD, there are no hard drives in the GM GPS units.

the DVD is in a second drive behind the screen..

go to menu >> navigation >> I believe there is an item that says something like map data, or some such, touching that will bring up a screen giving you the option to eject the disc. When you do the screen will drop down and the disc comes out..
