Tinted Tail Lights This Weekend

Finally decided to spray tint the back tail lights. I used VHT night shades and clear. 3 coats each and sanded with 2000 grit and polished it out to get the shine. Here is some shots. The night shot is running lights only.

I will be doning a friends this weekend. I will do one with pics.

Here is the steps:

1. lightly wet sand (with dish soap)the light with 2000 grit. Get all the shine off.

2. wash light with water to get clean.

3. Wipe with microfiber rag and blow off.

4. Paint with VHT night shades edges first and light even sprays across the light.

5. apply the next two coats the same, stat with the edges. Let dry 5 to 10 min between coats.

6. after the 3rd coat spray the clear. I used Duplicolor laquer. It sprays the best. You can spray as much as you want. just don't run it.

7. Let dry for 20 to 30 min.

8. Wet sand witgh 2000 grit. Get all the orange peel out. oucansee it when you wipe it dry. It will be smooth.

9. The polish it out with Compound and a buffer. This part take a while. Keep working the compound until you get the look you want. Mine has the factory clear look. It took me about a hour to polish it out right.

I hope this helps someone. It is real easy. I also looked up tint tail lights on you tube and there is a two part video that is real good. just follow that and you will be ok!

Thanks, it came out better than I thought it would. You can still see the red coming thru in the sunlight. I sent the pic to Dupli-color and they added the truck to their site.

I want to do this mod so bad... but I'm afraid I'll screw it up. Looks great :dunno:

I really wanted to paint mine, but living in CA has it's downsides (yea I know, what are the good sides? No one knows :dunno: ). So I had mine tinted. I'll have to post pictures later. Nice work!!!

Looks good I don't have the patience so I scored a set for my 05' from eBay for $60.

I was a little afraid also. If you take your time you can do it. Worst case is you mess it up and have to buy new lights.

I was looking on ebay at the tint film.... how well does that hold up and how are is it to put on :( For $14 Its with a try maybe.

i highly doubt that would hold up well... and the good part with the nightshades is that you can basically choose how dark you want it by how many layers you put on.

not to mention its probably impossible to get on without a few bubbles especially on a curved surface
