Z71 Or Nht Max Trailering Pack

I went with the full-dress Z-71 in Victory Red. Others, folks who pull a trailer or who need a little more zip will probably opt for the NHT.

Either way, my friend, you cannot go wrong.

The present Chevys and GMCs in the GMT-900 are a fabulous truck.

I love mine even more than I did the day I bought it. What GREAT trucks!!!!!

I went with the NHT package on mine.. It was a tough decision since I do like the app. package... What really made my decision up was that I have planned on putting bigger diameter tires on it, and I figured with the 3.73's and taller tire would bring me down to around 3.55 anyway.. I didnt want to go much "taller" than that since I tow an enclosed car trailer as well.

Only downfall of the NHT package is that you are stuck with the ugly 17" wheels and blackwall tires...

I went with the Z-71 Appearance/suspension package with my ECSB 6.2 1500. The 3:73's give you 300 more lbs of towing capacity, over the 3:42's and that's it. And yes, the 6.2 automatically mandates the 9.5" rear axle with disc brakes. Just over 700 miles on mine and I love it. :)

There is a picture of mine in this thread here. If it ever stops raining, I will have some more pictures.

I'm not sure how long it hasn't been offered with the Z-71 but I've been working on trucks that sense the '99 GMT-800's came out, Z-71's didn't have 3:73 gears from the factory. With the 6spd trans, I really don't think the 3:73's are needed, imo. Again, the only thing that changes in the truck specs, with getting 3:73's, is being able to carry an additional 300 lbs of trailer weight. I'm fine with my 6.2 and 3:42 combo and I'm sure that it will haul/tow everything that I need it too, just fine.

3:73 is only available with the NHT

I went with the z71, the difference in HP and the six speed with 3:42 will do all I need... If I am towing heavy I would opt for a 25 or 3500

If you want to run 35" tires I would go for the NHT though...

Can you no longer get the 3.73 as an option on the z71?

NOPE.. only available with the NHT Max-Trailer package which cannot be combined with the Z-71...... 3.42's are the standard now for Z-71..Unless you opt for the 3.08's :)

the difference in HP

??? There is no difference in HP. The 6.2 is rated at 403 hp

Well they made at least one 2008 Z71 with the 6L, locker, and 3.73s because that is how mine was made.

I'm not trying to say that they never have but there are a lot of people that automatically think that if you order a Z-71 truck that you automatically get 3:73 gears and even a G80 diff. Not true. Back in the days of the GMT-400 trucks, yes but, if my memory serves me correctly, as soon as the 800's started in '99, that was not true. That, is all that I was trying to say. :)

I too have a 08 z71 6l with the 3.73. This dissapeared when the 6l disappeared and they went 6.2 and 6l80e trans.

No worries, I thought that is what you meant. I guess they stopped the option when the 6 speed came out.

Thanks for all the opinions! You guys have some nice trucks! So the only difference between the NHT and Z71 is the rear gear ratio. Is that correct? I know you can't trust Chevy's website but that list the Max Trailering Pack as a 3500 dollar option and the 6.2 as only a 2000 dollar option. That doesn't seem right..What does the 6.2 option cost? Thanks!
