Z71 Or Nht Max Trailering Pack

I have an 08 with the 6.0L of course. I have the 4.10 gears and really don't tow much and I don't do stoplight grand prix. In retrospect, I would have preferred a taller gear for the high speed cruise mileage.

We got the 3.42 on our 2011 Silverado about a month ago. Before I towed anything, I was thinking I'd made a mistake not going for the NHT Max Trailering Pack but, because the dealer was offering our truck at about $9k under sticker, went with the 3.42. Turns out that our truck can easily pull our 6,200-6,300 pound trailer and horses, and that we're fine with the 3.42. If I could have gotten the NHT with its' higher 3.73 rear end ratio for the same price, I would have, but I would have had to order it and pay closer to sticker. We did, however, get the larger rear end, rear disc brakes, and a 9,400 pound towing capacity (vs. the NHT's 10k +). Our truck now has about 1,500 miles on it (300 of which were towing), and it's perfect for our needs.

FYI - our truck is an LT extended cab, and the 6.2 option added $2,020, the built-in trailer brake controller added $200, the leather bucket seats added $1,795, and the 20" chrome wheels added $1,245. We didn't get the Z71 package, but do have the Z60 "High Performance Suspension Package" which includes a 36mm front stabilizer bar. We'll eventually replace the stock shocks with Bilsteins, so I'm not to concerned with any other variances.

Thanks for the insight guys! You all have some nice trucks!

I got my extended cab NHT because I felt it was a better deal as far as heavy duty equipment . I do not plan to tow much

but I did not want to end up with drum brakes. Also, I didn't want to pay for a fully loaded unit on a lot. I ordered my SLE with just four options. NHT, SLE interior, block heater and universal home remote. (dealer forgot to order that). I paid less than $36000CDN.

I had 2000ish KM on it and took t from Alberta, to Las Vegas, then Houston and back in 11 days (4 of them were lounging in Las Vegas) Vegas to Houston to Calgary =Friday AM to Monday evening. 3600 miles averaged anywhere from 13.5 mpg to 18.3 mpg depending on headwind and speed. Usually 80mph. Comfortable driving all the way. Only complaint is every animal hair sticks to the upholsery.

There is a large chance I'm mistaken, but I am not seeing the old Eaton G80 locker as an option in a non-NHT L9H Z71? I do see it with the All Terrain Package, however.

My Z71 Appearance Package truck with the Z71 Suspension Package has the G80 axle, it also has the larger ring gear and rear disc brakes since I have the 6.2.

Axle, HD Locking Rear

Work Truck, LS & LT [G80] $325.00

(Std LTZ) (Std w/All Star Ed-PDU, Trailering Equipment-Z82 & Trailering Pkg-NHT)

Even with adding 33" tires, the 3:42's do fine, I have not noticed any difference with the larger tires. Now if you were going to 35's 3:73's would be a better choice.

The G80 is an included option in the Z82 trailering package which is a mandatory option with the L9H, if I remember it right.

My Z71 L9H has the G80 diff as well.

That's the info I was missing. Thank you sir.

I drove my first L9H Z71 today. Really, really needed some TM "adjustment". I'm as GM as they come and still have my old '01 but drive a Tundra now as primary means of transport for various reasons. Just testing the waters on this powertrain.

Need some help...About to order a 6.2 Extended Cab 4x4 and was wondering if I should go with the Z71 or the NHT Max Trailering Pack. I think the NHT comes with 4 wheel disc brakes and a heavier duty rear! That correct? How much do the two differ when it comes to ride stiffness? What are everyone's thoughts? Anyone have both or driven both? Thanks!

Okay there both excellent choices our family has both trucks 2008 5.3 3.73 Z71 & i bought a 2011 6.2 NHT w/ 3.73 in Feb. There both smooth riding the NHT does not squat easily when loaded verses the Z71. It just has heavier rear springs. I think its up to you what your planning to do with it and then make the choice. There both very capable trucks but since you asked thats what i have noticed.

What is the highway fuel mileage difference? 3.42 vs 3.73 and how fast do you drive?

About as much difference as there is in towing or performance between the too. Too little to worry about. The NHT can pull more on paper due to the 3.73 gear, oh darn. I'm sure the leaf spring difference has more to do with that than the gear ratio does. Again, I currently have a 1/2 ton truck that is capable of pulling a 9400 lb trailer. That is more than ANY 1/2 ton truck should EVER pull so I have no need to worry about not having the extra 1000 lb trailer towing capacity of the NHT package.

Yeh, i think im going with the 6.2 3.42 just for the Z 18's. depends on what the decide to give me for my trade.
