I just recently had to have my transmission rebuilt around 600-700 miles ago. Prior to the rebuild I was hearing a distinct metal "clink" sound when putting it into gear. Mainly going into and out of reverse. I haven't noticed it since the rebuild but now I am hearing it again. The only difference is I don't seem to be leaking any trans fluid this time. I don't know if this is normal for this type of transmission or if I should be worried again. A certified GM dealer did all the work so its warrantied up to 12 months or 12k miles so if it breaks I'm not too worried about cost at the moment. I just don't want to jump the gun, freak out and take it in then be out of pocket for the diagnostic. Unless its something that really needs to be looked at of course. It doesn't seem to be slipping or shifting awkwardly but then again I can't say that I know for sure what that would feel like. It just seems to be driving okay to me. Any insight would be appreciated.

Does seem odd that its engaging so hard that it clinks, but it is warrantied like you said so if something goes wrong then your covered,

Well I looked underneath and the only thing I noticed was a piece rope/tape stuck in the driveshaft where it meets the differential. Must have run over it and got tangled at some point but the sound is coming from the middle and not the rear. I gotta see if I can get some pliers when I get home to get that little strand out. It doesn't look like a lot though. My luck with vehicles lately is awesome lol.

Alright so that cloth tape crap is wedged in there good so no go on getting it out yet BUT. I did go back to the old drivers ed way of parking that I learned way back when. I set the parking brake, put the truck in neutral, left of the pedal brake, then put it in park. When I go into the truck to put in gear after that I don't notice such a loud "clink". I can hear it engage but nothing that sounds terrible. So maybe its normal and it was just from having the weight on the truck on the transmission instead of the parking brake? I dunno. I'll keep an eye on it I rekon.

the clunk could be the slip yoke...its not harmful and can be corrected with a plentiful helping of grease..
