What can I do about this?

Paint is starting to chip into some visible areas.

Is putting some aftermarket fenders on an option?

Lightly grind down troubled area, paint/ rust proof it and throw on some Bushwackers?

Any Ideas would help!

Thanks!!!!!!!

Yep, thats what I'd do, sand it down to bare metal, mask it off and paint it. For added protection, flares would help. The wheel wheels obviously take a beating all winter long.

How long of a period did it take to get that bad?

Bought "Silvia" used, no more than a year ago (I LOVE MY SILVERADO!!)

Previous owner had the dinky chrome fender flares, i Had to take them off. Those were the culprit.

I was expecting this. The pressure washer does not help either.

Paint wise, what would be my best bet?

i dont know where you are from, but find out your paint code, and go to an auto parts store such as pep boys, autozone etc. and there you will find duplicolor GM exact match paint in a spray can

If you are keeping the truck take it to a reputable body shop and get it fixed right, putting flares on it will make it worse they hold the moisture and dirt unless you are totally fanatical about cleaning. It is a hard problem to stop, regular spray paint from aparts store along with flares is a temporary fix.

Sucks, I just noticed mine now has surface rust starting under the cab. 2007 with 66,000 on it. I almost kicked a hole through the door I was so depressed/angry. Apparently there is nothing you can do to stop it because my truck is always, always clean.

Yes, I was not impressed either.

On the note of correcting these "eye-sores". I was planning on going to a very reputable place and getting the rear wheel wells bed lined and then get that lip sanded down, rust proofed and bed-lined as well. Prevent any stone chips and the sorts from that ever happening again. Local bodyshop didn't care to do it cause they knew i'd be back (giving business away? Nope! just really great guys!)

Just been too busy to do something about it yet, so i'm just taking it easy around the cancer spots w/ the washer, and hopefully soon, something will be done!

I have a friend who is a full time field mechanic and was starting to see a similar issue... he ended up sanding it down, and then stripped the paint about 1" up onto the fender an all 4 corners and all the rocker panels, then took his truck to a local lineX shop and had them shoot the areas, including the inner fender. Not the best look, but it does solve the problem.

Dont waste time trying to fix it yourself if you plan on keeping the truck for a long time, and want it looking stock. Take it to a profesional body shop, all the home fixed paint ive ever seen done looks like crap and never lasts. JMO
