Where Did I Go Wrong

Well, I'm at Nags head NC... specifically drove down to Cap Hatterus. My wife and I drove on the beach 18 years ago here and thought we'd do it again. Everything went well driving it, but... not so good coming out

 

A little to much throttle and I didn't air down. I figured I'd be fine.

 

 

Didn't look to bad but the front was pushing sand...

 

Forgive the finger in the photo. Unfortunately this was the worse side. The tires were more than 1/2 in the sand.

 

 

Don't make fun of me too bad.. A friendly local helped me get out. Big thanks to the couple guys that helped me. Had to air down the tires too.

We have all been there. At least you didn't tear up anything. I have a badly bent up 4wheeler ramps from our sand experience.

Beautiful truck, and the sand is a whole different obstacle for sure. I live on the Carolina Coast as well. A couple weeks ago when I got the new dually the first thing my son said was we had to go get the sticker so we can drive it on the beach, lol. I told him the diesel made it too heavy and we wont take it on the beach. Any of you take a diesel in the sand? I love 4 wheeling out to my favorite fishing spot and chilling out for the day, just a little nervous the Duramax is going sink in the sand. Crap, I guess i got free towing anyways,,,,, just embarassing.

Diesels do fine in the sand. Two of my buddies in TX drive Dodge ram duallys on PINS all the way to the end...thats 58 miles of beach driving one way ;)

 

 

Good to know, now I just cant tell my son until i am back for good or he will have that truck on the beach without me, lol.

This reminds me of an experiance my folks had. They were snowbirds after they retired and livied in Colorado. During the winter they would live in their 32' travel trailer in the southern states of Texas & Arizona. Dad had a 1972' Chevy 3/4 ton with the big block 402" and posi-traction that they used to pull it with.

 

One time they arrived at South Padre Island a day ahead of schedule and their spot was not going to be vacant until the next day so they decided to spend the night parked on the beach. They enjoyed the night on the beach however the trailer sunk into the sand over night and the next morning as the tide was comming in they were unable to pull it out with their truck! The were getting real worried and near a panic when a passing 4x4 tow truck spotted them and was able to pull it out just in time.

Any one of us who has NOT been stuck has never done much off-road driving.

 

Thatis just part of the "fun."

 

I'm glad you got unstuck and didn't harm anything (our pride is always the victim ) Been there, done that and now we're all wiser for it. Until the next time!!!!
