Window Motor

2001 Silverado.

My drivers side window motor is about shot. I took the panel off and had to tap the motor lightly with a screwdriver to get it to work so I could at least get it back up before a storm was about to hit here. I have nothiced that the window has been taking longer than normal to come up and has been making a terrible noise but I was not surprised being its a 2001 model.

My question is, is it best to replace the entire regulator with motor or just the motor? I think the entire assembly is 100.00 and the motor alone is 40. This is from Advance Auto Parts. The builder of the parts are Dorman. Seems to have good reviews of being a quality product.

Is either route something I could do myself or should I take it to a mechanic. The guy I usually use said labor alone would be 90.00. Sure would like to save that money!

Thanks for any help!

Regulator seems to be functional. I would just replace motor. Google it and you'll find a bunch-o YouTube How-To videos.

Thank you. I bought just the motor today. Has anyone ever replaced just the motor? Do i have to take the entire regulator out to do this or can it be done with leaving it in the door? I cant find a decent video actually showing the procedure.

This might be a little late, but if you are planning on keeping the truck for a while, I'd return the motor, and get the regulator and motor combo. The regulator might be binding up, and causing stress on the motor, eventually killing it.

Good point. I changed the whole thing when I did my passenger side just to be safe. You have to take it out to get at the motor anyways. ;-)

Excellent point. At the time I bought it I was told I could do it without removing it all. I havent fooled with it yet. May just return it and get the entire deal. Thanks again!

You're Welcome! It was relatively easy to do. Good Luck!
